We present timing and spectral analysis of RXTE-PCA ( Proportional Counter Array) observations of the accretion powered pulsar 4U 1907+09 between 2007 June and 2008 August. 4U 1907+09 had been in a spin-down episode with a spin-down rate of -3.54 x 10(-14) Hz s(-1) before 1999. From RXTE observations after 2001 March, the source showed a similar to 60 per cent decrease in spin-down magnitude, and INTEGRAL observations after 2003 March showed that source started to spin-up. We found that the source recently entered into a new spin-down episode with a spin-down rate of -3.59 x 10(-14) Hz s(-1). This spin-down rate is pretty close to the previous long-term spin-down rate of the source measured before 1999. From the spectral analysis, we showed that hydrogen column density varies with the orbital phase.

Modelling of quasi-periodic oscillations with wave packets
Alpar, MA; Yilmaz, A (1997-01-01)
Model dispersion relations are introduced to explore power spectra of the normal-branch (NB) and horizontal-branch (HB) quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs; for reviews see Van der Klis (1989)[ARA&A, 27, 517], (1992) [Proc. of NATO ASI X-Ray Binaries and Recycled Pulsars, eds. Comprehensive timing and X-ray spectral analysis of GX 1+4
Serim, M. M.; Sahiner, S.; Cerri-Serim, D.; İNAM, SITKI ÇAĞDAŞ; Baykal, Altan (2017-08-01)
We present the analysis of RXTE-PCA observations of GX 1+4 between 2001 March 3 and 2003 January 31 together with the CGRO-BATSE X-ray flux and frequency derivative time series between 1991 and 1999. From the timing analysis of RXTE-PCA observations, we are able to phase connect pulse arrival times of the source within two different time intervals and obtain corresponding timing solutions. Using these pulse arrival times, we contribute to long-term pulse frequency history of the source. We look for episodic...
Discovery of a glitch in the accretion- powered pulsar SXP 1062
Serim, Muhammed Miraç; Sahiner, S.; Cerri-Serim, D.; İNAM, SITKI ÇAĞDAŞ; Baykal, Altan (2017-11-01)
We present timing analysis of the accretion-powered pulsar SXP 1062, based on the observations of Swift, XMM-Newton and Chandra satellites covering a time span of about 2 yr. We obtain a phase coherent timing solution that shows that SXP 1062 has been steadily spinning down with a rate-4.29(7) x10(-14) Hz s(-1) leading to a surface magnetic field estimate of about 1.5 x 10(14) G. We also resolve the binary orbital motion of the system from X-ray data that confirms an orbital period of 656(2) d. On MJD 56834...
Timing studies of X Persei and the discovery of its transient quasi-periodic oscillation feature
Acuner, Z.; İNAM, SITKI ÇAĞDAŞ; Sahiner, S.; Serim, Muhammed Miraç; Baykal, Altan; Swank, J. (2014-10-11)
We present a timing analysis of X Persei (X Per) using observations made between 1998 and 2010 with the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) onboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and with the INTEGRAL Soft Gamma-Ray Imager (ISGRI). All pulse arrival times obtained from the RXTE-PCA observations are phase-connected and a timing solution is obtained using these arrival times. We update the long-term pulse frequency history of the source by measuring its pulse frequencies using RXTE-PCA and ISGRI data. Fr...
The Spectral and temporal properties of MAXI J1409-619
Dönmez, Çağatay Kerem; Baykal, Altan; Department of Physics (2019)
In this thesis, spectral and timing analysis of the transient high-mass X-ray binary (HMXB) pulsar MAXI J1409-619 are presented. MAXI J1409-619 was discovered in October 2010, and went into an outburst in early December 2010 until February 2011. Observations of Swift and RXTE throughout this period are used in the thesis. The analysis results are in line with the assertion that MAXI J1409-619 is an accretion-powered pulsar. Time-resolved energy spectra of RXTE and Swift data confirm the previously reported ...
