Thermal and mechanical properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) used as dental base material
Usanmaz, Ali; Turker, F; Dogan, A; Akkas, N (1998-08-15)
The thermal and mechanical properties of poly( methyl methacrylate) prepared at different curing times were studied using DSC, TGA, tensile, and three-point bending test methods. The molecular weights of the polymer samples were determined from the viscosity measurements. The curing time applied for two different commercial materials, manufactured for dental use, ranged from 15 to 180 min. The samples cured for 15 and 20 min were soluble in chloroform completely, but the others were partially soluble. The i...
Thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of gamma-ray-cured poly(methyl methacrylate) used as a dental-base material
Usanmaz, Ali; Eser, O; Dogan, A (Wiley, 2001-08-01)
In this study, gamma rays were used for the first time to cure dental-base material. The effect of the radiation dose on the thermal and theological properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) used as a dental-base material was investigated. The commercial powder and liquid material (heat-curing-grade) were mixed and polymerized at 60 and 70 degreesC in a constant-temperature water bath for 30 min and then were cured by gamma rays, with total doses of 7.5, 15, 22.5, 30, 45, 52.5, 360, and 2160 krad. For ...
Thermal and mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite impregnated acrylic bone cements
Serbetci, K; Korkusuz, F; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2004-04-01)
Improvement of mechanical, thermal and biological properties of acrylic-based bone cements by adding various chemicals is a novel research area. Among these additives, hydroxyapatite (HA) is proven to be a biocompatible and osteoconductive material and it strongly integrates with bone. In this study, HA-containing acrylic bone cements were prepared and thermal and mechanical properties of the resultant cements were examined.
Thermal and mechanical properties of microwave- and heat-cured poly(methyl methacrylate) used as dental base material
Usanmaz, Ali; Ates, J; Dogan, A (Wiley, 2003-10-03)
The thermal and mechanical properties of dental base materials cured by microwave and conventional heat methods were studied. The commercial dental base poly(methvl metacrylate) (PMMA) powder and liquid were mixed in a 3/1 ratio. They were polymerized by a peroxy catalyst at 63degreesC, then cured with a boiling water temperature and microwave radiation for periods of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 min for heat curing and 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 min for microwave radiation. The microwave radiation outputs used wer...
Thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of microwave and heat-cured poly(methyl methacrylate) used as dental base material
Muhtarogullari, IY; Dogan, A; Muhtarogullari, M; Usanmaz, Ali (Wiley, 1999-12-13)
In this study, the particle size distribution, molecular weight, thermal analysis (TGA) differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of poly(methyl methacrylate) used as dental base material were investigated. The commercial raw material used were prepared for microwave curing, and they were cured by microwave and conventional heat methods. The average particle size of the powder studied (103.1 mu m) were much larger than that of the commercia...
