Environmental geological investigations at the Van open dump site, southeastern Turkey
Akgün, Haluk (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2000-04-01)
This study evaluates the geological, hydrogeological and hydrological conditions at the I waste dump site of the Van municipality in eastern Anatolia, Turkey. A geological map and a three-dimensional view of the project site have prepared. All lithological units exposed at and near the dump site have been determined and their boundary relationships identified. Drainage basin characteristics of the dump site along with the water bearing properties of different lithological units have been assessed. For the r...
Biological decay and its control by biomineralisation in calcareous stones
Üstünkaya, Meltem Cemre; Saltık, Emine Nevin; Department of Archaeometry (2008)
Biodeterioration has an important role in weathering of historical materials. Natural stone materials become vulnerable to physical and chemical changes in outdoor conditions, favouring the biological growth. In this study, biodeterioration on calcareous stones and its control by biomineralisation were studied on limestones from Nemrut Mount Monument and marbles from Pessinous Archaeological Site. For qualitative and quantitative detection of biological activity fluorescein diacetate (FDA) method that was d...
Biological treatment and nanofiltration of denim textile wastewater for reuse
ŞAHİNKAYA, Erkan; UZAL, Nigmet; Yetiş, Ülkü; Dilek, Filiz Bengü (2008-05-30)
This study aims at coupling of activated sludge treatment with nanofiltration to improve denim textile wastewater quality to reuse criteria. In the activated sludge reactor, the COD removal efficiency was quite high as it was 91 +/- 2% and 84 +/- 4% on the basis of total and soluble feed COD, respectively. The color removal efficiency was 75 +/- 10%, and around 50-70% of removed color was adsorbed on biomass or precipitated within the reactor. The high conductivity of the wastewater, as high as 8 mS/cm, did...
Son 1500 Yıl Boyunca Ege Denizi’ndeki Tsunamilerin Sedimanter İzleri, (Karine Lagünü, B-Türkiye)
Avşar, Ulaş (2019-08-01)
As high energy tsunami waves reach shallow near-shore environments, the height of the waves increases and sea water propagates towards the land. During this movement, significant amounts of sediment are transported inland from the nearshore, foreshore and beach. While a lagoon that is separated from the sea by a low, thin sand barrier has a relatively calm depositional environment under normal conditions, during a tsunami the sea water climbs over the sand barrier and deposits material from the nearshore, f...
