A multi-phase heuristic for the production routing problem
Solyali, Oguz; Süral, Haldun (2017-11-01)
This study considers the production routing problem where a plant produces and distributes a single item to multiple retailers over a multi-period time horizon. The problem is to decide on when and how much to produce and stock at the plant, when and how much to serve and stock at each retailer, and vehicle routes for shipments such that the sum of fixed production setup cost, variable production cost, distribution cost, and inventory carrying cost at the plant and retailers is minimized. A multi-phase heur...
A mixed integer model for optimization of discrete time cost tradeoff problem
Tatar, Ali Can; Bilir, Mert; Sönmez, Rifat; Atan, Sabri Tankut (null; 2016-06-25)
In construction projects, activity durations can be expedited by allocating additional resources. Decreasing activity durations by means of crashing, usually leads to increase in the direct expenses. This trade-off between time and cost is called as the time-cost trade-off problem. Since in practice many resources are available in discrete units, numerous research has focussed on the discrete version of this problem called the discrete time-cost trade-off problem (DTCTP). Achieving the project schedule that...

A Mixed integer programming method for pareto front optimization of discrete time cost trade-off problem

There is a reverse relationship between the activity durations and costs in construction projects. In scheduling of construction projects, the project duration can be compressed (crashed) by expediting some of its activities in several ways including; increasing crew size, working overtime, or using alternative construction methods. As a result, when duration of a critical activity is decreased, its cost increases and project duration decreases. In construction projects, resources are usually available in d...
A nested iterative scheme for computation of incompressible flows in long domains
Manguoğlu, Murat; Tezduyar, Tayfun E.; Sathe, Sunil (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2008-12-01)
We present an effective preconditioning technique for solving the nonsymmetric linear systems encountered in computation of incompressible flows in long domains. The application category we focus on is arterial fluid mechanics. These linear systems are solved using a nested iterative scheme with an outer Richardson scheme and an inner iteration that is handled via a Krylov subspace method. Test computations that demonstrate the robustness of our nested scheme are presented.
