Shallow deep drawing process of a square cup is investigated in this paper. A combined friction model is introduced which integrates the Khonsari's friction model based on asperity contact and Wilson's friction model based on lubricant flow. A film thickness ratio of 0.035 is introduced for 0.15 mu m standard deviation of surface summits. Below the ratio of 0.035, Khonsari's model gives more accurate results since asperity friction is dominant. Above the ratio of 0.035, Wilson's model gives more accurate results since hydrodynamic friction is dominant.

Image-based extraction of material reflectance properties of a 3D object
Erdem, Mehmet Erkut; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan; Department of Computer Engineering (2003)
In this study, an appearance reconstruction method based on extraction of material re?ectance properties of a three-dimensional (3D) object from its twodimensional (2D) images is explained. One of the main advantages of this system is that the reconstructed object can be rendered in real-time with photorealistic quality in varying illumination conditions. Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Functions (BRDFs) are used in representing the reflectance of the object. The reflectance of the object is decompos...
Consideration of spatial variation of the friction coefficient in contact mechanics analysis of laterally graded materials
Dağ, Serkan (2016-01-01)
This paper presents a new analytical approach for sliding contact analysis of laterally graded materials, which allows taking into account the spatial variation of the friction coefficient. The method is developed by considering a sliding frictional contact problem between a laterally graded elastic medium and a rigid flat punch. Governing partial differential equations entailing the displacement components are derived in accordance with the theory of plane elasticity. General solutions are determined and b...
Design and Applications of Yb/Ga2Se3/C Schottky Barriers
Khanfar, Hazem K.; Qasrawi, Atef F.; Zakarneh, Yasmeen A.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2017-07-15)
In this paper, the Ga2Se3 crystals are used to design a Yb/Ga2Se3/C Schottky barrier. The device structure is investigated by the X-ray diffraction technique, which reveals a monoclinic-face-centered cubic interfacing type of structure. The barrier is studied by means of current (I)-voltage (V) characteristics in the dark and under light through photoexcitation from tungsten lamp and from the He-Ne laser. In addition, the impedance spectroscopy of these devices is studied in the frequency range of 10-1400 M...
Modeling of inelastic behavior of curved members with a mixed formulation beam element
Sarıtaş, Afşin (Elsevier BV, 2009-04-01)
The curved beam element in this paper is based on Hu-Washizu variational principle. The nonlinear response of the element arises from the integration of stress-strain relations over several control sections along the element length. The finite element approximation for the beam uses shape functions for stress resultants that satisfy equilibrium and discontinuous strains along the beam. No approximation for the beam displacement field is necessary in the formulation. The proposed element is free from membran...
Comparison of Different Constitutive Models in Sheet Metal Forming
Ucan, Meric; Darendeliler, Haluk (2013-04-24)
The effects of different constitutive models in sheet metal forming are investigated by considering the cylindrical and square cup drawing and V-bending processes. Numerical analyses are performed by employing eight different constitutive models. These are elastic plastic constitutive model with isotropic hardening, elastic plastic constitutive model with kinematic hardening, elastic plastic constitutive model with combined hardening, power law isotropic plasticity, piecewise linear isotropic plasticity, th...
