Pippard relations applied to the lambda-phase transition in NH4Br

2008-11-01
We establish here a linear variation of the specific heat C-p with the frequency shifts (l/v)(partial derivative v/partial derivative T)(p) close to the X-phase transition in NH4Br (T-lambda=234 K). This linear relationship is based on our spectroscopically modified Pippard relations. For this verification of our relations, we use our observed Raman frequencies of the lattice mode of v(7) (56 cm(-1)) and the internal mode of v(2) (1684 cm(-1)) in the NH4Br crystalline system. Our study given here indicates that the thermodynamic data can be obtained from the measured frequencies.

PIPPARD RELATIONS MODIFIED FOR THE RAMAN FREQUENCY SHIFTS CLOSE TO I-II PHASE TRANSITION IN S-TRIAZINE
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2011-12-30)
The pressure dependence of the frequency shifts 1/omega(partial derivative omega/partial derivative T)(P) is calculated from the 1/omega(partial derivative omega/partial derivative P)(T) for the Raman modes I and IV according to the spectroscopic modifications of the Pippard relations. The observed Raman frequencies of those modes are used for this calculation close to the I-II phase transition in s-triazine. From the frequency shifts, the isothermal compressibility kappa(T) and the specific heat C-P are al...
Pippard relation modified for the rotatory lattice mode in ammonia solid II
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2005-01-01)
In this study we obtain a linear variation of the specific heat Cp with the Raman frequency shifts 1/v (partial derivative v/partial derivative T)p for the rotatory lattice (librational) mode in the ammonia solid II near the melting point. From this linearity, we deduce values of the slope dP(m)/dT for the pressures of 3.65, 5.02 and 6.57 kbars in the ammonia solid II. Our calculated value of dP(m)/dT for the pressure of 3.65 kbar, is in good agreement with the experimentally measured value in the P-T phase...
Spectroscopic modifications of the Pippard relations for NaNO2 in the sinusoidal antiferroelectric phase
Tari, O; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2002-06-01)
We establish in this study a linear variation of the specific heat C-p with the frequency shifts (1/nu)(partial derivativenu/partial derivativeT) in the sinusoidal antiferroelectric phase of NaNO2, according to the first Pippard relation which we have modified spectroscopically. For this linear relationship we use the Brillouin frequencies of acoustic phonon modes for the q[010], q[001] and q[100] modes of NaNO2 in the sinusoidal antiferroelectric phase. We then calculate dT/dP values due to those modes stu...
Application of the spectroscopic modifications of Pippard relations to NaNO2 in the ferroelectric phase
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2001-01-01)
This study examines a linear variation of the specific heat C-P with the frequency shifts 1/nu(partial derivative nu/partial derivativeT) for the Brillouin frequencies of the L-mode [010], [001] and [100] in the ferroelectric phase of NaNO2 according to our spectroscopically modified Pippard relation. We obtain this linear relationship for those modes studied and calculate dT(C)/dP in the ferroelectric phase of NaNO2. Our calculated values of dT(C)/dP for the [001] and [100] modes are in good agreement with...
Critical behaviour of ammonia near the melting point
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2002-08-01)
This study gives our calculations for thermodynamic quantities, such as the isothermal cornpressibility k(T), thermal expansivity alphap and the specific heat C-P, as a function of temperature for solid ammonia near the melting point. Our calculations, which have been performed on the basis of an experimental study given in the literature, show that those thermodynamic quantities diver e near the melting point in ammonia. This is an indication that ammonia exhibits a critical transition as one approaches th...
