The wide availability of stereoscopic 3D TVs and mobile displays created a considerable market for content producers. This opened a new phase for researchers to study on methods to alter and process the content for various purposes. This study concentrates on user assisted disparity remapping for stereo image footage. The disparity of an object of interest is altered while leaving the remaining scene unattended. This application is useful in the sense that it provides a method for emphasizing/de-emphasizing an object on the scene by adjusting its depth with respect to the camera. The proposed technique can also be used as a post processing step for retargeting stereoscopic footage on different display sizes and resolutions. The proposed technique involves an MRF based energy minimization step for interactive stereo image segmentation, where user assistance on just one of the stereo pairs is required for determining the location of stereo object pair. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the generated segments and the disparity adjusted images prove the functionality and superiority of the proposed technique.

2D-3D feature association via projective transform invariants for model-based 3D pose estimation
Gedik, O. Serdar; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2012-01-26)
The three dimensional (3D) tracking of rigid objects is required in many applications, such as 3D television (3DTV) and augmented reality. Accurate and robust pose estimates enable improved structure reconstructions for 3DTV and reduce jitter in augmented reality scenarios. On the other hand, reliable 2D-3D feature association is one of the most crucial requirements for obtaining high quality 3D pose estimates. In this paper, a 2D-3D registration method, which is based on projective transform invariants, is...
Real - time stereo to multi-view video conversion
Çığla, Cevahir; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
A novel and efficient methodology is presented for the conversion of stereo to multi-view video in order to address the 3D content requirements for the next generation 3D-TVs and auto-stereoscopic multi-view displays. There are two main algorithmic blocks in such a conversion system; stereo matching and virtual view rendering that enable extraction of 3D information from stereo video and synthesis of inexistent virtual views, respectively. In the intermediate steps of these functional blocks, a novel edge-p...
Superpixel based efficient image representation for segmentation and classification
Taşlı, Hüseyin Emrah; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
The wide availability of visual capture and display devices with increasing resolution and a ordable prices, made the visual data an indispensable part of our life. The enormous amount of visual data produced every day is captured, stored and sometimes processed for further analysis. In this era of technological improvement, where an exponential increase in the number and capability of the devices is experienced, researchers have focused on e cient and accurate ways to reach, store, analyse and display the ...
Automatic eye tracking and intermediate view reconstruction for 3D imaging systems
Bediz, Yusuf; Akar, Gözde; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
In recent years, the utilization of 3D display systems became popular in many application areas. One of the most important issues in the utilization of these systems is to render the correct view to the observer based on his/her position. In this thesis, we propose and implement a single user view rendering system for autostereoscopic/stereoscopic displays. The system can easily be installed on a standard PC together with an autostereoscopic display or stereoscopic glasses (shutter, polarized, pulfrich, and...
