Calibrating the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous shallow and deep marine bioevents by quantitative biostratigraphy: A synthesis from the Pontides Carbonate Platform (Turkey)
Atasoy, Serdar Görkem; Altıner, Demir; Altıner, Sevinç (2022-08-01)
© 2022 Elsevier B.V.The Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous is an interval of unstandardized stages and includes the only Mesozoic system boundary without a Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point – the Jurassic/Cretaceous (J/K) boundary. Recent researches have been mainly focused on deep marine continuous successions from the Tethyan region and provided important progress in calibration of pelagic bioevents. Correlation of these pelagic zonations with the schemes from shallow marine deposits is still obscu...
Calibration and evaluation of wavewatch III under extreme conditions in Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean Sea Basin
Bingöl, Cem; Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
In this study, performance of WAVEWATCH III under extreme waves in Eastern Mediterranean Sea and Aegean Sea is assessed using Climate Forecast System Reanalysis wind data. Best source term is selected from all five source terms that is available in WAVEWATCH III for representation of wind waves in the region. Calibration of the selected source term is conducted for Aegean Sea and Turkish Coast of Mediterranean Sea. Three new Turkish State Meteorological Service buoys are utilized in the study which were nev...
Calibration and evaluation of the 3rd generation wave models under extreme conditions in black sea basin
Kirezci, Çağıl; Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
In this study, performances of 3rd generation wave models, SWAN and WAVEWATCH III, under storm conditions in Black Sea are compared considering two different wind source (CFSR and ECMWF operational) data. Basic wave parameters (outputs of the spectral wave models) demonstrate that the governing physical processes in deep water consist of three terms; wind-wave interaction, dissipation of energy due to whitecapping and swell, and nonlinear wave-wave interactions. Effects of different methodologies for the so...
Calibration of cameras of the HESS detector
Aharonian, F; et. al. (2004-11-01)
H.E.S.S.-the high energy stereoscopic system-is a new system of large atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes for GeV/ TeV astronomy. Each of the four telescopes of 107 m(2) mirror area is equipped with a 960-pixel photomultiplier-tube camera. This paper describes the methods used to convert the photomultiplier signals into the quantities needed for Cherenkov image analysis. Two independent calibration techniques have been applied in parallel to provide an estimation of uncertainties. Results on the long-term stab...
CALIBRATION AND EVALUATION OF THE 3RD GENERATION WAVE MODEL WAVEWATCH III UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS IN EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN AND AEGEAN SEA
Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar (null; 2019-05-15)
In the previous studies Poseidon Buoy data are used for both calibration and validation forthird generation wave models in Aegean Sea. However, due to spatial resolution limits(caused by huge computational time of wave model), there is problem with the bathymetry. This problem is caused by complex orography of Aegean Sea and existence of islands.Depth of Poseidon buoys are under 20m and it is not possible to obtain these depths forany of Poseidon buoys with a spatial resolution that is applicable for calibra...
