MIMO channels with limited rate feedback and RVQ

2007-06-13
The capacity increases promised by multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems usually come with requirements in regard to channel knowledge. We study the capacity of a MIMO scheme with perfect channel state information (CSI) at the receiver side where the transmitter has only a quantized version of the CSI due to a limited rate feedback channel. Random vector quantization is investigated along with a reduced number of precoders. It is found out that capacity losses are quite tolerable even in the case of small number of bits per quantized precoder.

The Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) are recently utilized in the real-time monitoring, control and protection applications in electrical power systems. PMUs contribute the better understanding of modern power systems by rendering time synchronized voltage and current measurements thanks to their high-resolution and high-precision compared to the conventional SCADA measurements. State estimation is one of the most important monitoring means in power systems. State estimation can be performed solely at substa...
Design and Analysis of Frequency-Tunable Amplifiers using Varactor Diode Topologies
Nesimoglu, Tayfun (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-08-01)
The design of frequency-tunable amplifiers is investigated and the trade-off between linearity, efficiency and tunability is revealed. Several tunable amplifiers using various varactor diode topologies as tunable devices are designed by using load-pull techniques and their performances are compared. The amplifier using anti-series distortion-free varactor stack topology achieves 38% power added efficiency and it may be tuned from 1.74 to 2.36 GHz (about 35% tunable range). The amplifier using anti-series/an...
Broadband spatial power combining in coaxial medium
Tanç, Zafer; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
Microwave amplifiers having high output power are the essential components in many systems, such as radar and satellite communication. Although the structures generated by tube technologies fulfill the necessity of the required output power, the use of these amplifiers includes some critical drawbacks, one of which is the limited life of operation. Alternatively, solid-state amplifiers produced by transistor technology are preferred since they are high reliable devices. In order to provide the necessary out...
CodePipe: An Opportunistic Feeding and Routing Protocol for Reliable Multicast with Pipelined Network Coding
Li, Peng; Guo, Song; Yu, Shui; Vasilakos, Athanasios V. (2012-03-30)
Multicast is an important mechanism in modern wireless networks and has attracted significant efforts to improve its performance with different metrics including throughput, delay, energy efficiency, etc. Traditionally, an ideal loss-free channel model is widely used to facilitate routing protocol design. However, the quality of wireless links would be affected or even jeopardized by many factors like collisions, fading or the noise of environment. In this paper, we propose a reliable multicast protocol, ca...
Improving data freshness in random access channels
Atabay, Doğa Can; Uysal, Elif; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
The conventional network performance metrics such as throughput and delay do not accurately reflect the needs of some applications. Age of information (AoI) is a newly proposed metric that indicates the freshness of information from the receiver’s perspective. In this work, a network of multiple transmitter devices continuously updating a central station over an error-free multiaccess channel is studied. The average AoI expressions are derived for Round-Robin, Slotted ALOHA, and a proposed random access str...
