The first application of nanocrystal (NC)-encoded microbeads to clinical proteomics is demonstrated by multiplexed detection of circulating autoantibodies, markers of systemic sclerosis. Two-color complexes, consisting of NC-encoded, antigen-covered beads, anti-antigen antibody or clinical serum samples, and dye-tagged detecting antibodies, were observed using flow cytometry assays and on the surface of single beads. The results of flow cytometry assays correlated with the ELISA technique and provided clear...

Nano calcium phosphates doped with titanium and fluoride ions: sinterability and stability of phases
Güngör Geridönmez, Serap; Evis, Zafer; Department of Engineering Sciences (2012)
The purpose of this study was to synthesize calcium phosphates doped with titanium and fluoride ions in different combinations. Pure and doped calcium phosphates were synthesized by a precipitation method. The synthesized materials were sintered at 1100ºC and 1300ºC for 1h. The ceramics were characterized by density measurements to determine the effect of sintering temperature. Presence of phases and bonds were characterized by XRD diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy. Grain sizes of the samples were obtained ...
Nano-organic carbon and soot particle measurements in a laminar ethylene diffusion flame
D'Anna, A; Rolando, A; Allouis, Christophe Gerard; Minutolo, P; D'Alessio, A (2005-01-01)
The formation of carbonaccous particulates in a co-flow laminar diffusion flame has been studied using UV-visible spectroscopy and laser scattering/extinction techniques for measurements of volume fractions and particle sizes. Measurements were performed in a non-smoking ethylene-air flame at atmospheric pressure. UV-visible spectroscopy allowed the identification of two classes of particles: soot particles, which absorb light in the whole spectral range and nano-organic carbon particles (NOC) which are tra...
