Spectroscopic modifications of Pippard relations: Tricritical phase transition in NH4Cl

2006-12-01
We study here the Pippard relations modified spectroscopically for the NH4Cl crystal. By relating the specific heat C-P to the frequency shift (1/v)(partial derivative v/partial derivative T)(P) for the disorder-allowed Raman modes of v(7) (93 cm(-1)) and v(5) (144 cm(-1)) in NH4Cl close to the tricritical point (P = 1.6 kbar, T-C = 257 K), we show that the first Pippard relation is valid for this crystalline system.

Spectroscopic measurements of electron temperature and electron density in electron beam plasma generator based on collisional radiative model
Goktas, H.; Demir, A.; Kacar, E.; Hegazy, H.; Turan, Raşit; Oke, G.; Seyhan, A. (Informa UK Limited, 2007-01-01)
The current work describes a spectroscopic method for determining the electron temperature and electron density in an electron beam generator using argon spectral lines based on a collisional radiative model. Neutral and first-ionized Ar lines emitted from the electron beam generator are studied experimentally. A collisional radiative code was developed to simulate the Ar (I) and Ar (II) spectral emission and to compare the results with the experimental data for electron density and temperature determinatio...
Ground-state properties, vortices, and collective excitations in a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate with gravitylike interatornic attraction
Keleş, Ahmet; Tanatar, B. (American Physical Society (APS), 2008-05-01)
We study the ground-state properties of a Bose-Einstein condensate with short-range repulsion and gravitylike 1 /r interatomic attraction in two-dimensions (2D). Using the variational approach we obtain the ground-state energy and analyze the stability of the condensate for a range of interaction strengths in 2D. We also determine the collective excitations at zero temperature using the time-dependent variational method. We analyze the properties of the Thomas-Fermi-gravity and gravity regimes, and we exami...
Raman Spectroscopy Investigation of Nano Hydroxyapatite Doped with Yttrium and Fluoride Ions
Yilmaz, Bengi; Evis, Zafer (Informa UK Limited, 2014-01-02)
In this study, nano hydroxyapatite doped with yttrium (2.5, 5, and 7.5mol%) and fluoride (2.5mol%) ions were synthesized by precipitation method and sintered at 900 degrees C, 1100 degrees C, and 1300 degrees C. Raman spectroscopy was applied to track the structural modifications in pure and doped hydroxyapatites. The results showed that the main characteristic band of pure hydroxyapatite at 963cm(-1) was not affected significantly by ion doping but exhibited higher intensity with increasing sintering tempe...
Performance of banded SLW-1 in presence of non-gray walls and particles in fluidized bed combustors
Yaşar, Mehmet Soner; Selçuk, Nevin; Külah, Görkem (Elsevier BV, 2020-12-01)
In this study, banded one gas spectral line-based weighted sum of gray gases (banded SLW-1) model is coupled with a 3-D radiation code based on method of lines (MOL) solution of discrete ordinates method (DOM) for freeboard of METU 0.3 MWt atmospheric bubbling fluidized bed combustion (ABFBC) test rig containing non-gray gas, non-gray particle mixture bounded by non-gray walls. Spectral parameters of banded SLW-1 are estimated by the approach based on two emissivities calculated at two different path length...
Tunable surface plasmon resonance on an elastomeric substrate
Olcum, Selim; Kocabas, Askin; Ertaş, Gülay; Atalar, Abdullah; Aydinli, Atilla (The Optical Society, 2009-05-11)
In this study, we demonstrate that periods of metallic gratings on elastomeric substrates can be tuned with external strain and hence are found to control the resonance condition of surface plasmon polaritons. We have excited the plasmon resonance on the elastomeric grating coated with gold and silver. The grating period is increased up to 25% by applying an external mechanical strain. The tunability of the elastomeric substrate provides the opportunity to use such gratings as efficient surface enhanced Ram...
