Effect of proton scavengers on the textural properties and performance of Fe2O3 xerogels for boron containing pyrotechnics
Yilmaz, Nil E. Dinçer; Karakaş, Gürkan (2017-01-01)
Currently used rockets and missile igniter systems are mostly based on the pyrotechnic blends of fuels and oxidizers. In this study nano-sized boron was used as fuel because of its high heat of combustion, low atomic weight and high energy density. Iron oxide was used as an oxidizer and synthesized by sol-gel method by using various types of proton scavengers. In the experiments Fe(NO3)3·9H2O was used as a precursor and a wide range of proton scavengers (propylene oxide, 1,2 epoxybutane, tetrahydrofuran, te...

Effect of Solid State Grinding on Properties of PP/PET Blends and Their Composites with Carbon Nanotubes
Koysuren, Ozcan; Yesil, Sertan; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2010-12-05)
In this study, it was aimed to improve electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of conductive polymer composites, composed of polypropylene (PP), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), and carbon nanotubes (CNT). Grinding, a type of solid state processing technique, was applied to PP/PET and PP/PET/CNT systems to reduce average domain size of blend phases and to improve interfacial adhesion between these phases. Surface energy measurements showed that carbon nanotubes might be selectively localized at...
Effect of boron containing materials on flammability and thermal degradation of polyamide-6 composites containing melamine cyanurate
Yılmaz, Ayşen; Bayramli, Erdal (2011-05-01)
Three different boron containing materials, zinc borate (ZnB), borophosphate (BPO(4)), and boron and silicon containing oligomer (BSi), were used to improve the flame retardancy of melamine cyanurate (MC) in a polyamide-6 (PA-6) matrix. The combustion and thermal degradation characteristics were investigated using limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 standard, thermogravimetric analysis-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TGA-FTIR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and scanning electron microscop...
