Space-charge-limited current analysis in amorphous InSe thin films

The study of space-charge-limited currents (SCLC) in amorphous InSe thin films is presented. The temperature-dependent current-voltage (J-V) measurements were carried out for TO/a-lnSe/Au sandwich structures in the range of 200-320 K. For all samples, ohmic behavior was observed up to an electric field strength of about 2 x 10(5) V cm(-1). From the temperature dependence of conductivity data, the position of the thermal equilibrium Fermi level E-fo is determined as 250 meV above the valence band E-v. At higher electric field strength values in the SCLC regions, the proportionality constant of voltage changes is between 2 and 2.9 with temperature. The analysis of J-V characteristics using the SCLC method and analytical approach for the determination of density of states (DOS) in the energy range of 190-250 meV shows that DOS changes between 3.8 x 10(17) - 1.7 x 10(18) eV(-1) cm(-3) with energy. The energy distribution of DOS is temperature independent indicating that the SCLC in these amorphous films is related to the bulk, not to the surface layer between the contact and the film. Photocatalytic antimicrobial and self-cleaning properties of titana-silica mixed oxide thin films
Korkmaz Erdural, Beril; Bölükbaşı, Ufuk; Karakaş, Gürkan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
In this study photocatalytic antibacterial and self-cleaning activities of TiO2-SiO2 thin films as a function of TiO2/SiO2 ratios were investigated. TiO2-SiO2 mixed oxides were synthesized by sol-gel method and coated over soda-lime glass plates by dip coating technique. Escherichia coli was used as a model microorganism for the photocatalytic antibacterial tests. Degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) molecules was used to characterize photocatalytic self-cleaning activities of thin film surfaces. The max...
Steel hysteretic damper featuring displacement dependent hardening for seismic protection of structures
Dicleli, Murat (2014-11-26)
In this paper, a summary of analytical and experimental studies into the behavior of a new hysteretic damper, designed for seismic protection of structures is presented. The Multi-directional Torsional Hysteretic Damper (MTHD) is a recently-patented invention in which a symmetrical arrangement of identical cylindrical steel cores is so configured as to yield in torsion while the structure experiences planar movements due to earthquake shakings. The new device has certain desirable properties. Notably, it is...
Electrodeposition of zno thin films : effect of vanadium doping
Avşar, Cemre; Karakaş, Gürkan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2013)
The aim of this study was preparation and characterization of photocatalytically active ZnO thin films on ITO glass sheets by electrodeposition method. In order to investigate the effect of synthesis temperature on the morphology and photocatalytic activity of the thin films, synthesis was performed at room temperature and at 70 °C. Characterizaton of the thin films was carried out by AFM, SEM - EDX, XRD and XPS analysis. Photocatalytic activity of the samples was tested by methylene blue and stearic acid d...
Nanoheterogeneous ZrTa metallic glass thin films with high strength and toughness
Behboud, Ali B.; Motallebzadeh, Amir; Özerinç, Sezer (2022-04-25)
This study investigated the mechanical behavior of ZrxTa1−x (x = 21–79 at%) thin films and nanolayered films of ZrTa with modulated composition as model systems to gain insight into the hardness and toughness of metallic glasses and metallic glass nanocomposites. The monolithic films exhibit two primary microstructures, namely, a fully amorphous form (Zr = 35–70at%.) and an amorphous-crystalline composite (21–30 at% Zr). The amorphous films show a monotonic hardness variation with composition over a wide ra...
Free standing layer-by-layer films of polyethyleneimine and poly(l-lysine) for potential use in corneal stroma engineering
Altay, Gizem; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Khademhosseini, Ali; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2011)
In this study we fabricated free standing multilayer films of polyelectrolyte complexes for potential use in tissue engineering of corneal stroma by using the layer-by-layer (LbL) approach. In the formation of these LbL films negatively charged, photocrosslinkable (methacrylated) hyaluronic acid (MA-HA) was used along with polycations polyethyleneimine (PEI) and poly(L-lysine) (PLL). Type I collagen (Col) was blended in with PLL for improving the water absorption and cell attachment properties of the films....
