Search for New Physics in the Multijet and Missing Transverse Momentum Final State in Proton-Proton Collisions at root s=7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (2012-10-01)
A search for physics beyond the standard model is performed in events with at least three jets and large missing transverse momentum produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV. No significant excess of events above the expected backgrounds is observed in 4.98 fb(-1) of data collected with the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The results are presented in the context of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model and more generically ...
Intersonic shear crack growth along weak planes
Rosakis, Ares J.; Samudrala, Omprakash; Çöker, Demirkan (Informa UK Limited, 2000-01-01)
Classical dynamic fracture theories predict the Rayleigh surface wave speed (cR) to be the limiting speed of propagation for mode-I cracks in constitutively homogeneous, isotropic, linear elastic materials subjected to remote loading. For mode-II cracks, propagating along prescribed straight line paths, the same theories, while excluding the possibility of crack growth in the speed regime between cR and the shear wave speed, cs, do not exclude intersonic (cs<υ<cl) crack tip speeds. In the present study, we ...
ATLAS measurements of the properties of jets for boosted particle searches
Aad, G.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2012-10-15)
Measurements are presented of the properties of high transverse momentum jets, produced in protonproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb1 and were collected with the ATLAS detector in 2010. Jet mass, width, eccentricity, planar flow and angularity are measured for jets reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm with distance parameters R ¼ 0:6 and 1.0, with transverse momentum pT > 300 GeV and pseudorapidity jj < 2. The measure...
Numerical Solution and Stability Analysis of Transient MHD Duct Flow
Tezer, Münevver (2018-11-01)
This paper simulates the 2D transient magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow in a rectangular duct in terms of the velocity of the fluid and the induced magnetic field by using the radial basis function (RBF) approximation. The inhomogeneities in the Poisson’s type MHD equations are approximated using the polynomial functions (1+r) and the particular solution is found satisfying both the equations and the boundary conditions (no-slip and insulated walls). The Euler scheme is used for advancing the solution to ste...
DRBEM solutions of cauchy problem for the magnetohydrodynamic duct flow
Aydın, Cemre; Tezer-Sezgin, Münevver,; Department of Mathematics (2020)
In this thesis, the direct and inverse problems of the MHD flow in rectangular ducts are solved in terms of the velocity of the fluid and the induced magnetic field by using the Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method (DRBEM). The two-dimensional, steady flow of a viscous, incompressible, and electrically conducting fluid is considered under the effect of an externally applied mangetic field. The duct wall conditions for the MHD flow ranges from the no-slip to slip and insulated to perfectly conducting. In...
