Problems of Massive Gravity
Boybeyi, Töre Deniz; Tekin, Bayram; Department of Physics (2021-8-5)
In this thesis, the general properties of massive gravitation theories are outlined. Particular attention is given to the van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov discontinuity which arises in the massless limit of massive theories. Also, the observational, holographic, and thermodynamic properties of these theories are mentioned.
Effective gauge theories from fuzzy extra dimensions
Ünal, Gönül; Kürkcüoğlu, Seçkin; Department of Physics (2016)
In this thesis, we investigate the formulation and various aspects of gauge theories with fuzzy extra dimensions. In SU (N ) gauge theories coupled to a suitable number of adjoint scalar fields, we determine a family of fuzzy vacuum configurations dynamically emerging after the spontaneously symmetry breaking of the gauge symmetry. The emergent models are conjectured to be effective U (n) (n < N ) gauge theories with fuzzy extra dimensions. Making use of the equivariant parametrization technique and focusin...
Noncommutative two-dimensional gravities
BALACHANDRAN, A. P.; GOVINDARAJAN, T. R.; GUPTA, Kumar S.; Kürkcüoğlu, Seçkin (IOP Publishing, 2006-10-21)
We give formulations of noncommutative two-dimensional gravities in terms of noncommutative gauge theories. We survey their classical solutions and show that solutions of the corresponding commutative theories continue to be solutions in the noncommutative theories as well. We argue that the existence of 'twisted' diffeomorphisms, recently introduced in Aschieri et al ( 2005 Class. Quantum Grav. 22 3511), is crucial for this conclusion.
NON-METRICITY INDUCED BY DILATON GRAVITY IN 2 DIMENSIONS
DERELI, T; TUCKER, RW (IOP Publishing, 1994-10-01)
We discuss how theories of dilaton gravity can be constructed in terms of a torsionfree but non-metric-compatible connection and explore the nature of connection-induced dilaton couplings to gravity when the theory is reformulated in terms of the Levi-Civita connection. Exact classical solutions are presented in the context of a string-inspired dilaton model in two dimensions.
