CONVECTION ZONE OF WHITE-DWARF STARS
ATWEH, ZM; ERYURTEZER, D (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1992-01-01)
The boundary convection zones of hot helium white-dwarf stars (WDSs) in the range 17000 K less-than-or-equal-to T(e) less-than-or-equal-to 30000 K are studied. Recently, an anisotropic mixing-length theory (AMLT) which determines the mixing-length parameter locally is applied for the convection zones calculation. Comparing with the calculations by using the (MLT), it is found that maximum velocity decreases appreciably, and the other boundary conditions are affected.
Convection in the Black Sea during cold winters
Ivanov, LI; Backhaus, JO; Ozsoy, E; Wehde, H (2001-11-01)
We investigate the effects of initial conditions and atmospheric forcing on the penetration depth of winter convection in the strongly stratified environment of the Black Sea. The amount of Cold Intermediate Water (CIW) formed annually in the Black Sea, and the amount entrained into the euphotic zone from below, largely depend on the convective activity in the cold season. Seasonal thermohaline evolution of the mixed layer has been simulated using a one-dimensional mixed layer model driven by the ECMWF mete...
Emission Lines of Northern Planetary Nebulae
AKSAKER, NAZIM; Yerli, Sinan Kaan; Kiziloglu, Umit; Atalay, Betul (2016-10-14)
In this work, we present results of long slit spectrophotometric emission line flux observations of selected planetary nebulae (PNe). We have measured absolute fluxes and equivalent widths (EW) of all observable emission lines. In addition to these observations, electron temperatures (Te), densities (Ne), and chemical abundances were also calculated. The main purpose of this work is to fill the gaps in emission line flux standards for the northern hemisphere. It is expected that the measured fluxes would be...
Convection in a Porous Medium and Mimetic Scheme in Polar Coordinates
Karasözen, Bülent; Tsybulin, Vyacheslav (2011-09-09)
Analytical investigation of natural convection of the incompressible fluid in the porous media based on the Darcy hypothesis (Lapwood convection) gives intriguing branching off of one-parameter family of convective patterns. This scenario may be suppressed in computations when governing equations are approximated by schemes which do not preserve the cosymmetry property. We consider the problem in polar coordinates and construct a mimetic finite-difference scheme using computer algebra tools. The family of s...
Circulation of the Turkish Straits System under interannual atmospheric forcing
Aydoğdu, Ali; Pinardi, Nadia; Özsoy, Emin; Danabasoglu, Gokhan; Gürses, Özgür; Karspeck, Alicia (Copernicus GmbH, 2018-9-11)
Abstract. A simulation of the Turkish Straits System (TSS) using a high-resolution, three-dimensional, unstructured mesh ocean circulation model with realistic atmospheric forcing for the 2008–2013 period is presented. The depth of the pycnocline between the upper and lower layers remains stationary after 6 years of integration, indicating that despite the limitations of the modelling system, the simulation maintains its realism. The solutions capture important responses to high-frequency atmospheric...
