In this work, it was aimed to select and propose a feasible as well as an applicable method, or series of methods, for the extraction of zinc and lead that are present in the disposed Cinkur leach residues having 12.43 wt.% Zn, 15.51 wt.% Pb and 6.27 wt.% Fe. After determination of the components of the residue, acid leaching and brine leaching were performed to reclaim Zn and Pb sequentially. Acid leaching experiments were done for Zn extraction by controlling acid concentration, reaction duration, reaction temperature and pulp density (solid/liquid ratio) as parameters. At the optimum conditions, 150 g/L H2SO4 at 95 degrees C for 120 min with a pulp density of 200 g/L, 71.9% of initial Zn content was extracted. For Pb extraction, brine leaching experiments were conducted on the secondary leach residue obtained after primary H2SO4 leaching. In brine leaching trials, NaCl concentration, pulp density, reaction duration, reaction temperature and effect of HCl addition were chosen as parameters. Pb extraction up to 98.9% was attained on laboratory scale after 10 min of treatment, at 300 g/L NaCl concentration, 95 degrees C, pulp density (50 g/L) with 30 ml/L HCl addition.

Recovery of zinc and lead from Çinkur leach residues by using hydrometallurgical techniques
Rüşen, Aydın; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2007)
In this thesis, it was aimed to select and propose a feasible method, or series of methods, for the recovery of zinc (Zn) and lead (Pb) that are present in disposed ÇİNKUR leach residues having 12.43 % Zn, 15.51 % Pb and 6.27 % Fe. Initially, physical, chemical and mineralogical characterizations of the leach residues were done. Results of these analyses showed that lead was present as lead sulfate (PbSO4), and zinc was present as zinc sulfate heptahydrate (ZnSO4.7H2O), zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) and zinc silic...
Biosorption of lead(II) ions from aqueous solution by peanut shells: Equilibrium, thermodynamic and kinetic studies
Tasar, Seyda; Kaya, Fatih; Ozer, Ahmet (2014-06-01)
In this study, the biosorption of Pb(II) ions onto peanut shells from an aqueous solution was studied in a batch system as a function of temperature, pH of the solution, contact time, initial concentration of Pb(II) ions, and peanut shell concentration. It was determined that the biosorption capacity of the peanut shells decreased as the temperature was increased. Several kinetic models were used to determine the biosorption mechanism. It was determined that the biosorption system obeyed the pseudo-second-o...
Potassium permanganate/carboxylic acid/organic solvent: a powerful reagent for enone oxidation and aryl coupling reactions
Demir, Ayhan Gürbüz (2008-06-30)
The alpha'-acetoxylation of enones and the alpha-acetoxylation of aromatic ketones were carried out with potassium permanganate and acetic acid, in which acetoxylation products were obtained in 74-96% yields. The same reaction was carried out with carboxylic acids other than acetic acid, which furnished corresponding acyloxy ketones with the same regioselectivity. For the first time, formyloxylation products were synthesized in a 61-85% yield by using formic acid. The potassium permanganate and acetic acid ...
Pressure leaching of Sivrihisar-Yunus Emre nickel laterites
Seçen, Berk; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
The aim of this thesis study was to extract nickel and cobalt from Sivrihisar limonitic nickel laterite ore by high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) method under most economical operating parameters. Optimizing the conditions to yield a saleable quality mixed hydroxide product from the pregnant leach solution (PLS) was also investigated. To extract high amounts of nickel and cobalt from the laterite matrix; leaching duration, leaching temperature and sulfuric acid/ore ratio were studied at fixed conditions of ...
Hydrometallurgical processing of nontronite type lateritic nickel ores by MHP process
Kose, C. H.; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali (Elsevier BV, 2011-04-01)
The research work presented in this paper determined the optimum conditions at which nickel and cobalt could be obtained at maximum efficiency from the column leach liquor of the lateritic nickel ore existing in Gordes region of Manisa in Turkey by performing effective hydrometallurgical methods. This column leach solution was initially neutralized and purified from its basic impurities by a two-stage iron removal process, nickel and cobalt were precipitated in the form of mixed hydroxide precipitate from t...
