Electroinitiated copolymerization of indene with β-methoxystyrene was carried out at 0°C and five different potentials. Monomer consumption was studied by cyclic voltammetry. It is known that, when the difference between oxidation potentials of two monomers is large, polymerization potential affects copolymer composition. In the present study indene and β-methoxystyrene were selected because their oxidation potentials are almost equal, ca. + 1.40 V. The effect of polymerization potential on copolymer composition was studied. The copolymer composition did not change with polymerization potential, a novel result, for these monomers with almost equal oxidation peak potentials. The total reacted monomer concentration did not change with polymerization potential either. The amount of precipitated polymer, however, increased with polymerization potential.

ELECTROINITIATED POLYMERIZATION OF ACRYLAMIDE BY DIRECT ELECTRON-TRANSFER
HACIOGLU, B; Akbulut, Ural; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 1989-10-01)
Electroinitiated polymerization of acrylamide was carried out in acetonitrile–tetrabutylammonium fluoroborate by electrolytic reduction of monomer. It was shown by cyclic voltammetry that direct electron transfer from the cathode to the monomer can be achieved in this solvent–electrolyte system. Reduction peak potentials measured by cyclic voltammetry indicated that sodium salts will interfere with such a mechanism. Since the reduction peak potential of sodium salt and dimethylformamide are found to be lowe...
Benzotriazole and benzothiadiazole containing conjugated copolymers for organic solar cell applications
KARAKUS, Melike; APAYDIN, Dogukan Hazar; Yildiz, Dilber Esra; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (Elsevier BV, 2012-03-09)
2-Dodecyl benzotriazole (BTz) and benzothiadiazole (BTd) containing copolymers poly(4-(2-dodecyl-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-4-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (P1), poly(4-(5-(2-dodecyl-7-(thiophen-2yl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-4-yl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (P2) and poly(4-(5-(2-dodecyl-7-(4-hexylthiophen-2-yl)-2H-benzo[d] [1,2,3]triazol-4-yl)-3-hexylthiophen-2-yl) benzo[c][1,2,5] thiadiazole (P3) were synthesized via Suzuki polycondensation. We report the application of conjugated copolymers i...
Synthesis and optical properties of light-emitting π-conjugated polymers containing biphenyl and dithienosilole
LIAO, Liang; Çırpan, Ali; CHU, Qinghui; KARASZ, Frank E.; PANG, YI (Wiley, 2007-05-15)
Copolymers containing oligo(phenylene vinylene) (2.5), fluorene, and 4,4-dihexyldithienosilole (DTS) units were synthesized and characterized. The pi-conjugated monomers were joined with the palladium(0)-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction, thus forming either biphenyl- or phenyl-thiophene linkages. These polymers were photoluminescent, with the fluorescent quantum efficiency between 54 and 63% and with),lambda(max) for fluorescence at similar to 448 nm in tetrahydrofuran. The presence of 5% DTS in t...
ELECTROINITIATED POLYMERIZATION OF MALEIC-ANHYDRIDE BY DIRECT ELECTRON-TRANSFER
Akbulut, Ural (Wiley, 1991-02-01)
Controlled potential electrolysis was employed to accomplish homopolymerization of maleic anhydride, by direct electron transfer. The solvent used in the polymerization studies was acetonitrile-dimethylformamide mixture (1:1) with the supporting electrolyte tetrabutylammonium tetra fluoroborate. A brown paramagnetic polymer was obtained from the catholyte, upon electroreduction of monomer.
Unusual manganese(III)-mediated oxidative free radical additions of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds to benzonorbornadiene and 7-heterobenzonorbornadienes: Mechanistic studies
Caliskan, Rasit; Ali, Mohamed Fadelalla; Sahin, Ertan; Watson, William H.; Balcı, Metin (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2007-04-27)
Benzonorbornadiene and heterobenzonorbornadiene were reacted with dimedone/acetylacetone and Mn(OAc)3 in the presence and absence of Cu(OAc)2. The reaction of benzonorbornadiene with dimedone gave mainly the dihydrofuran addition product, whereas the reaction with acetylacetone produced a rearranged product in addition to the dihydrofuran derivative. On the other hand, oxanorbornadiene gave unusual products such as the cycloproponated compound and a product arising from the incorporation of 2 mol of dimedon...
