Metamorphic history of the southern Menderes massif, western Turkey
Whitney, DL; Bozkurt, Erdin (2002-07-01)
Metamorphic mineral compositions and textures are integrated with microstructures to test tectonic models for the construction and exhumation of a mid-crustal terrane in western Turkey. The southern Menderes massif, part of the Alpine orogen, is composed of a tilted sequence of metasedimentary rocks that structurally overlies orthogneiss. Garnet-biotite equilibria for schists collected along north-south traverses consistently indicate temperatures of 430 degreesC for the southernmost, structurally highest g...
Metamorphism in the Palaeozoic schists of the Southern Menderes Massif field petrographic textural and fabric data from Selimiye Milas Muğla area
Bozkurt, Erdin (1996-01-01)
Abstract: The Menderes Massif is a large-scale metamophic core-complex in western Anatolia and forms the western of two large metamorphic culminations in the Turkish Alpide orogen. Within the Southern Menderes Massif on the southern side of the Beßparmak Mountain north of Selimiye (Milas-MuÛla), two distinct lithologic groups are recognized on the basis of their lithology and structural position: the late Oligocene granitoid rocks now in the form of mylonitic augen gneiss and the structurally overlying sequ...
Metamorphic imprint of ridge subduction on the Neo-Tethyan ophiolites from the Saka Unit (Central Pontides, northern Turkey)
Frassi, Chiara; Rebay, Gisella; Marroni, Michele; Sayıt, Kaan; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Ellero, Alessandro; Ottria, Giuseppe; Pandolfi, Luca (2020-09-01)
The Intra-Pontide suture zone is the northernmost ophiolite suture zone exposed in the Anatolian peninsula. It consists of several variably deformed and metamorphosed tectonic units derived from the Neo-Tethyan IntraPontide oceanic (IPO) basin, and its continental margins that are currently represented by the Istanbul Zonguldak and the Sakarya terranes. Recent data suggests that the IPO was a wide supra-subduction oceanic basin whose closure began in the uppermost Early Jurassic by a north dipping intra-oce...
Tectono-stratigraphic and thermal evolution of the haymana basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey
Gülyüz, Erhan; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Department of Geological Engineering (2015)
The Haymana Basin is located on the southernmost tip of the Central Pontides and straddles between the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Zone at the north and Intra-Tauride Suture Zone at the south. These suture zones designate the former positions of various branches of the Neotethys Ocean in Turkey, the basins evolved within these zones record the progressive closure of the Neotethys and the collision between Taurides, Kırşehir Block and Pontides during late Cretaceous to Eocene time interval. The Haymana Basi...
