Studies towards the preparation of functionalized cellulose microspheres with affinities towards negatively charged biomembranes
Demirel, Kaan; Türkyılmaz, Serhan; Department of Chemistry (2021-7)
Cellulose microspheres (CMs), generally with diameters in the 10-1000 µm range, have been used as stationary phases in chromatography, substrates for ion exchange applications, supports for protein immobilization and solid-phase synthesis, and drug loading and release materials. Furthermore, cellulose and CMs are biocompatible and have been used in many biomedical applications as varied as the dressing of wounds and blood filtration. Targeting of bacterial cells can be achieved using antibodies, antibody fr...
Design of a single-phase full-bridge diode rectifier power factor corrector educational test system
Ünal, Teoman; Üçtuğ, Yıldırım; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
In this thesis an educational test bench for studying the power quality attributes of the commonly used single-phase full-bridge diode rectifiers with power factor correction (PFC) circuits is designed and tested. This thesis covers the active and passive power factor correction methods for single-phase bridge rectifier. Passive filtering approach with dc side inductor and tuned filter along with active filtering approach via singleswitch boost converter is considered. Analysis, simulation, and design of a ...
Analytical solutions to orthotropic variable thickness disk problems
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Varlı, Ekin (2016-01-01)
An analytical model is developed to estimate the mechanical response of nonisothermal, orthotropic, variable thickness disks under a variety of boundary conditions. Combining basic mechanical equations of disk geometry with the equations of orthotropic material, the elastic equation of the disk is obtained. This equation is transformed into a standard hypergeometric differential equation by means of a suitable transformation. An analytical solution is then obtained in terms of hypergeometric functions. The ...
On the Design and Implementation of Higher Order Differential Microphones
De Sena, Enzo; Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Cvetkovic, Zoran (2012-01-01)
A novel systematic approach to the design of directivity patterns of higher order differential microphones is proposed. The directivity patterns are obtained by optimizing a cost function which is a convex combination of a front-back energy ratio and uniformity within a frontal sector of interest. Most of the standard directivity patterns-omnidirectional, cardioid, subcardioid, hypercardioid, supercardioid-are particular solutions of this optimization problem with specific values of two free parameters: the...
Design of a ZVS QRC converter for educational test bench
Şengüzel, İsmail; Üçtuğ, Yıldırım; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
In this thesis, the conventional pulse-width modulated (PWM) and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) quasi-resonant buck converters are analyzed and a variable-frequency control technique is proposed to regulate the output voltage due to the immediate input line and load changes. The quasi-resonant technique provides favorable switching conditions for active switch to reduce switching losses and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The method is based on shaping the voltage across the active switch in quasisinusoid...
