Aegilops juvenalis (Thell.) Eig (Poaceae) is recorded and vouchered for the first time from Turkey. This first vouchered wild record is confined to Ceylanpmar province in C8 Sanhurfa. The diagnostic morphological characters discriminating it from of Aegilops crassa Boiss. are pointed Out. Notes are presented on its ecology and phenology. A corpus-based study of evidentials in the Turkish Cypriot dialect
Isik-Tas, Elvan Eda; Sağın Şimşek, Sultan Çiğdem (2019-11-01)
Using a corpus-based language contact framework, this study explores how evidentiality is expressed in Standard Turkish spoken in Turkey (TT) and the Turkish Cypriot Dialect spoken in North Cyprus (CT). The corpus comprises oral interviews with 80 speakers in North Cyprus and Turkey. We compared the expressions of direct and indirect experience in the oral productions of speakers aged between 18 and 22 (18+ group) with the expressions of speakers who were 50 and older (50+ group). We used two comparable sub...
Evaluation of GRACE based groundwater storage change information at Konya Closed Basin Turkey using remote sensing and in situ measurements
Yılmaz, Koray Kamil; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul (null; 2016-12-12)
The Konya Closed Basin (KCB) located in Central Anatolia, Turkey, is the primary grain producer in Turkey and covers an area of approximately 50000km2. The lack of sufficient surface water resources and recently changing crop patterns have led to over-exploitation of groundwater resources and resulted in significant drop in groundwater levels. For this reason monitoring of the groundwater storage change in this region is critical to understand the potential of the current water resources and to devise effec...
Analyzing Internal Migration to Antalya and Mugla through Gravity Modelling
Akarca, Ali T.; Tansel, Aysıt (2018-07-01)
Antalya and Mugla provinces located in southwestern Turkey recently emerged as new magnets for internal migration. In an earlier study, we had pointed out that the dynamics underlying migration to these two provinces differs in many respects from that fueling the population movements to traditional magnets. In this paper, we complement our previous findings by showing how in some other key respects, migration to Antalya and Mugla is similar to migration to traditional destinations. We accomplish this by est...

PREPARATION OF PEDESTRIAN EVACUATION TIME MAPS FOR SOUTHERN COASTS OF BODRUM PENINSULA, TURKEY
Çelikbaş, Büşra; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Department of Geological Engineering (2022-1-28)
Historical records reveal that Turkey coasts faced with a considerable number of tsunamis in its past. Although the tsunamis in the seas surrounding Turkey are not as catastrophic as the ones in Pacific Ocean, still they may cause substantial damage to the highly populated touristic coastal places. Eastern Mediterranean Sea and Aegean Sea are in the seismically active region of Turkey. Therefore, numerous earthquakes and associated tsunamis are threatening the western coasts of Turkey. Recently, two importa...
