AMPLITUDE EVOLUTION AND RUNUP OF LONG WAVES; COMPARISON OF EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL DATA ON A 3D COMPLEX TOPOGRAPHY
Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Synolakis, Costas E. (2004-06-12)
The runup of long waves on the sloping planes is described by the analytical solutions of the long wave equations with special initial conditions, proper approximations and boundary conditions. These studies are also compared with experimental data (Yeh et al. (1996); Lin et al. (1999); Yalciner et al. (2003)). Similarly the numerical methods solving governing equations with proper boundary conditions are also developed and compared with either analytical or experimental or field data for long wave propagat...
Amplitude and phase of light scattered by micro-scale aggregates of dielectric spheres: Comparison between theory and microwave analogy experiments
Sabouroux, Pierre; Stout, Brian; Geffrin, Jean Michel; Eyraud, Christelle; Ayranci, Isil; Vaillon, Rodolphe; Selçuk, Nevin (2007-01-01)
Light scattering is a useful diagnostic tool for characterization of particles. Direct scattering measurements for arbitrarily shaped micro-scale particles is difficult due to small-scale limitations. Microwave analogy is a convenient approach to realize such measurements as it enables realization of analogous experiments with larger model particles in a spectral domain where wavelengths are on centimeter scale. In the present study a test model analogous to light scattering by a micro-scale aggregate of di...

Frequency-domain prediction of turbofan noise radiation
Özyörük, Yusuf; Alpman, E; Ahuja, V; Long, LN (2004-03-05)
This paper describes a frequency-domain numerical method for predicting noise radiation from ducted fans, including acoustic treatment and non-uniform background flow effects. The method solves the Euler equations linearized about a mean flow in the frequency domain. A pseudo-time derivative term is added to the frequency-domain equations so that a time marching technique can be employed to drive the acoustic field to steady state explicitly. This approach makes distributed parallel computing more viable fo...
Frequency tunable microstrip patch antenna using RF MEMS technology
Erdıl, Emre; Topallı, Kagan; Unlu, Mehmet; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Akın, Tayfun (2007-04-01)
A novel reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna is presented that is monolithically integrated with RF microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) capacitors for tuning the resonant frequency. Reconfigurability of the operating frequency of the microstrip patch antenna is achieved by loading it with a coplanar waveguide (CPW) stub on which variable MEMS capacitors are placed periodically. MEMS capacitors are implemented with surface micromachining technology, where a 1-mu m thick aluminum structural layer is plac...
