Nonlinear frequency conversion of light inside a microcavity
Yüce, Emre (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2019-01-01)
Changing the color of light in a small mode volume is essential for applications that require on-chip operation. Microcavities are profound structures given their property to confine light in a small mode volume. Here, I numerically investigate the frequency conversion of light in a microcavity and show that the frequency converted light intensity is distinguished from an open medium such as an optical fiber or a nonlinear crystal. I observe that the frequency converted light intensity increases with increa...
Precision Measurement of the (e(+) + e(-)) Flux in Primary Cosmic Rays from 0.5 GeV to 1 TeV with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer on the International Space Station
Aguilar, M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2014-11-26)
We present a measurement of the cosmic ray (e(+) + e(-)) flux in the range 0.5 GeV to 1 TeV based on the analysis of 10.6 million (e(+) + e(-)) events collected by AMS. The statistics and the resolution of AMS provide a precision measurement of the flux. The flux is smooth and reveals new and distinct information. Above 30.2 GeV, the flux can be described by a single power law with a spectral index gamma = -3.170 +/- 0.008(stat + syst) +/- 0.008(energy scale).
Exact solvability of moving boundary problems
Yuce, C (Elsevier BV, 2004-06-28)
In this Letter, the problem of a spinless particle under the moving boundary condition is studied. It is found that the exact solution can be found if the boundary moves with the constant speed. It is proven that this restriction on the exact solvability is lifted if the electromagnetic field is introduced in the system. As an application, the exact solution for the particle confined in the sinusoidally vibrating cylindrical well is given.
Precision Measurement of the Boron to Carbon Flux Ratio in Cosmic Rays from 1.9 GV to 2.6 TV with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer on the International Space Station
AGUILAR, M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2016-11-28)
Knowledge of the rigidity dependence of the boron to carbon flux ratio (B/C) is important in understanding the propagation of cosmic rays. The precise measurement of the B/C ratio from 1.9 GV to 2.6 TV, based on 2.3 million boron and 8.3 million carbon nuclei collected by AMS during the first 5 years of operation, is presented. The detailed variation with rigidity of the B/C spectral index is reported for the first time. The B/C ratio does not show any significant structures in contrast to many cosmic ray m...
Nonlinear mode coupling and sheared flow in a rotating plasma
Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit; Choi, S.; Clary, M. R.; Ellis, R. F.; Hassam, A. B.; Teodorescu, C. (IOP Publishing, 2009-01-01)
Shear flow is expected to stabilize the broad spectrum of interchange modes in rotating plasmas. However, residual fluctuations may still persist. To investigate the presence of such fluctuations, sixteen magnetic pickup coils equally spaced on a crown have been mounted inside the vacuum vessel, at the edge of a rotating plasma in mirror configuration. A comprehensive analysis of the magnetic fluctuations shows that very low spatial mode numbers survive under the imposed shear flow. Nevertheless, temporal F...
