We present preliminary results of the High Density Plasma Injection Experiment at the Maryland Centrifugal Experiment (MCX). HyperV Technologies Corp. has designed, built, and installed a prototype coaxial gun to drive rotation in MCX. This gun has been designed to avoid the blow-by instability via a combination of electrode shaping and a tailored plasma armature. An array of diagnostics indicates the gun is capable of plasma jets with a mass of 160 mu g at 70 km/s with an average plasma density above 10(15) cm(-3). Preliminary measurements are underway at MCX to understand the penetration of the plasma jet through the MCX magnetic field and the momentum transfer from the jet to the MCX plasma. Data will be presented for a wide range of MCX field parameters, and the prospects for future injection experiments will be evaluated.

Observations and Simulations of Magnetic Fluctuations in MCX
Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit; Ellis, R. F.; Hassam, A. B.; Teodorescu, C. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-09-01)
Recently magnetic fluctuations in the Maryland centrifugal experiment (MCX) have been measured by an azimuthal array of 16 probes in the edge region of the plasma. A detailed analysis indicates that there is primarily a convection of m = 2 fluctuations by the azimuthally rotating plasma. However, the frequency spectrum of this mode is broad and is almost of the same order as the frequency. Furthermore, bicoherence analysis indicates dominant nonlinear interaction between m = 2 and a low frequency m = 0 mode...
Transverse momentum spectra of inclusive b jets in pPb collisions atv root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2016-03-01)
We present a measurement of b jet transverse momentum (p(T)) spectra in proton-lead (pPb) collisions using a dataset corresponding to about 35nb(-1) collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Jets from b quark fragmentation are found by exploiting the long lifetime of hadrons containing a b quark through tagging methods using distributions of the secondary vertex mass and displacement. Extracted cross sections for b jets are scaled by the effective number of nucleon-nucleon collisions and are compared to a...
Measurement of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at 5.44 TeV with the CMS experiment
Stojanovic, Milan; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2019-02-01)
New measurements of anisotropic flow in XeXe collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.44 TeV per nucleon pair, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, are presented. The v(2), v(3) and v(4) Fourier coefficients of the anisotropic azimuthal distribution are obtained employing three different analysis techniques: two-particle correlations, the scalar product method, and multiparticle cumulants, which have different sensitivities to non-flow and flow fluctuation effects. The results are shown as a functi...
Strange particle production in pp collisions at root s=0.9 and 7 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-05-01)
The spectra of strange hadrons are measured in proton-proton collisions, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, at centre-of-mass energies of 0.9 and 7TeV. The K-S(0), A, and Xi(-) particles and their antiparticles are reconstructed from their decay topologies and the production rates are measured as functions of rapidity and transverse momentum, p(T). The results are compared to other experiments and to predictions of the PYTHIA Monte Carlo program. The p(T) distributions are found to differ subst...
Inclusive b-jet production in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2012-04-01)
The inclusive b-jet production cross section in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7TeV is measured using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The cross section is presented as a function of the jet transverse momentum in the range 18 < p(T) < 200 GeV for several rapidity intervals. The results are also given as the ratio of the b-jet production cross section to the inclusive jet production cross section. The measurement is performed with two different analyses, which differ in their tr...
