Hydrogeological and hydrochemical investigation for below-sea-level quarrying at cement raw material site (Kocaeli-Darica, Turkey)
Doyuran, Vedat; Karahanoğlu, Nurkan; Çamur, Mehmet Zeki; Topal, Tamer; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi; Yesilnacar, Ertan (Informa UK Limited, 2003-01-01)
A research has been carried Out to investigate the effects of below sea level mining on the cement raw material quality of a limestone quarry located adjacent to the shoreline near Darica-Kocaeli-Turkey. Field studies involved rock mass characterization through discontinuity surveys performed at the working benches of the quarry as well as on the core samples, monitoring of groundwater levels, performance of water pressure tests, and in-situ hydrochemical measurements. Hydrogeological data suggest that the ...
Modeling of catalytic ozonation process in a three-phase reactor
Erol, Funda; Oezbelge, Tuelay A.; Oezbelge, H. Oender (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this research, the main objective was to determine the flow characteristics of a three-phase reactor in order to use this knowledge in the modeling of catalytic ozonation of aqueous dye solutions. Therefore, the stimulus-response method was used in the tracer experiments; thus, the degree of liquid mixing in the reactor was estimated by means of residence time distribution, Peclet number and axial dispersion coefficient in the presence and the absence of the catalyst. Experimental data were obtained by p...
A kinetic study on the decolorization of aqueous solutions of acid Red-151 by ozonation
Ozbelge, TA; Erol, F; Ozbelge, O (Informa UK Limited, 2003-01-01)
The ozonation kinetics of an azo dye, namely, Acid Red-151 was investigated. Effects of pH, initial ozone, and initial dye concentrations on the ozonation of the dye were studied. The reaction orders were found to be one with respect to both ozone and dye concentrations for the studied pH range of 2.5-10. The reaction rate constants were obtained as 125.8, 95.4, 87.9, and 129.9 L mmol(-1) min(-1) at the pH values of 2.5, 5, 7, and 10, respectively. The initial ozonation rate decreased with the increasing pH...
Critical Review of Public Health Regulations of Titanium Dioxide, a Human Food Additive
Jovanovic, Boris (Wiley, 2015-01-01)
From 1916 to 2011, an estimated total of 165050000 metric tons of titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment were produced worldwide. Current safety regulations on the usage of the TiO2 pigment as an inactive ingredient additive in human food are based on legislation from 1969 and are arguably outdated. This article compiles new research results to provide fresh data for potential risk reassessment. However, even after 45 years, few scientific research reports have provided truly reliable data. For example, administra...
Numerical investigation of wall pressure fluctuations downstream of concentric and eccentric blunt stenosis models
Ozden, Kamil; Sert, Cüneyt; Yazıcıoğlu, Yiğit (SAGE Publications, 2020-01-01)
Pressure fluctuations that cause acoustic radiation from vessel models with concentric and eccentric blunt stenoses are investigated. Large eddy simulations of non-pulsatile flow condition are performed using OpenFOAM. Calculated amplitude and spatial-spectral distribution of acoustic pressures at the post-stenotic region are compared with previous experimental and theoretical results. It is found that increasing the Reynolds number does not change the location of the maximum root mean square wall pressure,...
