Removal of some organic compounds and color from olive mill wastewater by electrocoagulation
Ugurlu, Mehmet; Kula, Ibrahim; Guerses, Ahmet (2006-01-01)
The effective performance of electrocoagulation (EC) technique in the treatment of olive mill wastewater (OMW) was investigated using Al and Fe electrodes. Current densities (CD), electrode materials (Al and Fe), electrolyte amounts, time and initial pH value were selected as parameters. In these parameters, the removal percentage of chemical oxygen demand (COD), color, phenol and lignin from OMW were experimentally investigated. OMW was used directly without pH adjustment and pretreatment. The experiment r...

Removal of chlorinated organics from pulping effluents by activated sludge process
Ataberk, S; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (1997-03-01)
Combined effluents of a Kraft pulp mill using yearly plants were treated in a lab-scale activated sludge system. Average TOC and AOX removal efficiencies were 83% and 21% respectively. The effect of the operating solids retention time (SRT) on AOX removal was investigated and it was found that highest AOX removal (30%) occurs at longer SRT's. Mass balance on the system revealed that the principal AOX removal mechanism was metabolization at long SRT. About 90% of the AOX removed was metabolized. As SRT was l...
Removal of imidacloprid from wastewaters by ozonation and photo-ozonation
Sönmez, Büşra; Dilek, Filiz Bengü; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
The widespread occurrence of micropollutants in the receiving water bodies apparently shows that conventional wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are not capable to remove these compounds. Imidacloprid (IMI), which is a specific pollutant and an insecticide, exceeded Environmental Quality Standards (EQS) value (0.14 µg/L, annual average) in several receiving water bodies of WWTPs in Yeşilırmak basin. With the aim of examining advanced treatment methods to meet EQS value and to achieve good surface water qual...
