In order to gain deeper insight about structure-property relations properties, two novel donor-acceptor-donor type monomers were studied. 4'-Tert-butyl-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)spiro[benzo[d]imidazole-2,1'-cyclohexane] and 4,7di(2,2'-bithiophen-5-yl)-4'-tert-butylspiro[benzo[d]imidazole-2,1'-cyclohexane] were synthesized and electrochemically polymerized. Electrochemical and optical properties of the polymers were investigated via cyclic voltammetry and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy techniques. It was found that changing donor unit from thiophene to bithiophene results in a drastic change in optical and electrochemical properties, especially in optical contrast.

Crystallization kinetics of fluorophosphate glasses .1. Effect of composition and hearing rate
Ozturk, A (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-05-15)
Crystallization behaviour of glasses from the system AlF3-MF2-Ba(PO3)(2) (M = Ca, Mg, Sr, Ba) have been studied using differential thermal analysis as a function of Ba(PO3)(3). The kinetic parameters for crystallization, namely, the activation energy, E frequency factor, v, and Avrami exponent, n, were determined. E,v and n decreased with increasing Ba(PO3)(2). Crystallization commenced at higher temperatures and the crystal growth mechanism changed from bulk to surface with increasing Ba(PO3)(2). X-ray dif...
Interactions at fiber/matrix interface in short fiber reinforced amorphous thermoplastic composites modified with micro- and nano-fillers
Isitman, Nihat Ali; Aykol, Muratahan; Kaynak, Cevdet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2012-01-01)
This study aims at systematically extracting fiber/matrix interfacial strength in short-glass fiber-reinforced polymer composites using an experimental micromechanics approach which employs mechanical properties and residual fiber length distributions to derive the apparent interfacial shear strength. We started from neat high-impact polystyrene matrix short-glass fiber-reinforced composites (HIPS/GF) with varying fiber loading and proceeded toward HIPS/GF hybrid composites containing micro- and nano-filler...
Behavior and modeling of nonprismatic members having T-sections
Balkaya, C (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2001-08-01)
This paper emphasizes the discrepancies in conventional methods of analyzing nonprismatic members having T-sections. In practice, the change in the location of the centroidal axis over the length of nonprismatic members is ignored in structural analysis. Commonly used portland Cement Association tables for fixed-end moment and stiffness factors are based on the assumptions of a straight-line centroidal axis and variable rectangular cross section: However, discontinuities in the centroidal. axis produce stro...
Synthesis and optical properties of fused aromatic thienopyrazine based pi-conjugated polymers
Kolay, Merve; Tarkuc, Simge; Udum, Yasemin Arslan; Toppare, Levent Kamil (IOP Publishing, 2011-07-01)
Two new polythieno[3,4-b]pyrazine derivatives, poly-10,12-bis(4-hexylthiophen-2-yl)dibenzo[f,h]thieno[3,4-b]quinoxaline (PDBTQ) and poly-8,10-bis(4-hexylthiophen-2-yl)acenaphtho[1,2-b]thieno[3,4-e]pyrazine (PATP) were synthesized by electrochemical polymerization and their electrochemical properties reported. Electroactivity of the monomer and electrochemical redox behavior of its polymers were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Spectroelectrochemical analysis was performed and the band gaps of the polymer...
Flow transitions and flow localization in large-strain deformation of magnesium alloy
Sagapuram, Dinakar; Efe, Mert; Trumble, Kevin P.; Chandrasekar, Srinivasan (Elsevier BV, 2016-04-06)
Understanding transitions from homogeneous to localized flow, and mechanisms underlying flow localization, is of paramount importance for deformation processing of magnesium. In this study, a shear based deformation method is utilized for imposing large strains (similar to 1), under controllable strain rates (10-10(5)/s) and temperatures (80-300 degrees C), in order to examine flow patterns in a magnesium alloy. Based on microstructure characterization, deformation twinning is suggested to contribute to the...
