Traffic accident analysis using GIS: a case study of Kyrenia City
Kara, Can; Akcit, Nuhcan (2015-03-19)
Traffic accidents are causing major deaths in urban environments, so analyzing locations of the traffic accidents and their reasons is crucial. In this manner, patterns of accidents and hotspot distribution are analyzed by using geographic information technology. Locations of the traffic accidents in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013 are combined to generate the kernel distribution map of Kyrenia City. This analysis aims to find high dense intersections and segments within the city. Additionally, spatial autoco...
Traffic Safety at Median Ditches: Steel vs. Concrete Barrier Performance Comparison Using Computer Simulation
Yücel, Ayhan; Atahan, Ali; Arslan, Turan; Sevim, Umur (MDPI AG, 2018-11-1)
In Turkey, concrete V-shaped ditches are formed at the median section of divided highways to provide drainage. Recent accidents show that these ditches actually present safety risks to vehicles entering the medians. Vehicles either cross over the ditch, roll over, or become trapped in the ditch, depending upon the mass, size, speed, and angle of the entering vehicle. To overcome this safety risk and reduce the severity of these accidents, longitudinal barriers are installed along these ditches. Currently, i...
Traffic sign detection using fpga
Özkan, İbrahim; Bulut, Mehmet Mete; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, real time detection of traffic signs using FPGA hardware is presented. Traffic signs have distinctive color and shape properties. Therefore, color and shape based algorithms are chosen to implemented on FPGA. FPGA supports sufficient logic to implement complete systems and sub-systems. Color information of images/frames is used to minimize the search domain of detection process. Using FPGA, real time conversion of YUV space to RGB space is performed. Furthermore, color thresholding algorithm...

Traffic climate and driver behaviors: Explicit and implicit measures
Uzumcuoglu, Yeom; Özkan, Türker (Elsevier BV, 2019-04-01)
Traffic climate is about the road users' attitudes towards traffic context and it is assumed that perceived traffic climate might influence drivers' behaviors. In the literature, traffic climate was measured only by using self-report questionnaires. People might give biased responses to self-report measures due to social desirability. The aim of the current study was to develop the first implicit measure for traffic climate. In addition, both implicit and explicit attitudes towards traffic climate and their...
