Relation between pore water pressures and movements in reactivated landslides: A case study from Turkey
Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan (null; 2010-05-02)
Reactivated landslides in stiff clays and shales typically move on a pre-existing shear surface and they display little or no internal deformation within the sliding mass. These landslide movements can be classified in “extremely slow” and “very slow” categories, with rates of movement of less than 16 mm/year, and between 16 mm/year to 1.6 m/year, respectively, according to the classification by Cruden and Varnes (1996). The rate of movement in these landslides increase with an increase in porewater pressur...
Relationship between suction and shear strength parameters of compacted METU campus clay
Tilgen, Hüseyin Pars; Çokça, Erdal; Department of Civil Engineering (2003)
In this study, the relationship between soil suction and shear strength parameters of compacted METU campus clay were investigated at different moisture contents. Soil samples were tested at optimum moisture content (i.e. w=20.8%), at dry side of optimum moisture content (i.e. w=14.8%, 16.8%, 18.8%) and at wet side of optimum moisture content (i.e. w=22.8%, 24.8%, 26.8%). Direct shear tests were performed to measure shear strength parameters (c', F') and soil suctions were measured by filter paper method af...
