Gas separation performance of polycarbonate membranes modified with multifunctional low molecular-weight additives
Sen, D.; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Yılmaz, Levent (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
The gas permeation performances and various physical properties of dense polycarbonate (PC) membranes containing low molecular-weight additives (LMWA) with functional groups were evaluated. The selected LMWAs were p -nitroaniline, 4-amino 3-nitro phenol, catechol and 2-hydroxy 5-methyl aniline, and LMWA concentration in the membrane was changed between 1 and 10% (w/w). The PC/LMWA membranes had higher ideal selectivities but lower permeabilities than pure PC membrane. The most effective LMWA which provided ...
Gas permeation and sorption properties of zif-8 filled polymeric membranes prepared by infrared and incandescent light induced liquid and vapor phase inversion
Antepli Tüzün, Burcu; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Yılmaz, Levent; Department of Chemical Engineering (2017)
The asymmetric PES membranes were produced by wet phase inversion method. Observations show that 10% loading of ZIF-8 with 65 nm crystal size into PES membranes, increasing solvent and non-solvent content of the IPA coagulation bath improved the permeance of PES membranes. The PI membranes were prepared by light induced dry-wet phase inversion method which is a new method and is not used in literature yet. The maximum permeance was observed when the IR exposure took less than 10 seconds. The permeance was a...
Gas sensing property of a conducting copolymer
Ak, Metin; Yigitsoy, Basak; Yagci, Yusuf; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2007-05-02)
A bifunctional amido thiophene, namely hexamethylene (bis-3-thiophene acetamide) (HMTA) was synthesized and its copolymer with pyrrole was electrochemically prepared in water/ PTSA solvent/ electrolyte medium. Sensory behavior of this copolymer against ammonia, methanol, dichloromethane (DCM) and n-hexane vapors was investigated. The methanol vapor, which can form hydrogen bonds with the polar groups on the copolymer surface, showed the maximum response. DCM, which is less polar, yielded relatively lower re...
GAS DETECTION BY USING TRANSMITTANCE ESTIMATION AND SEGMENTATION APPROACHES
Başkurt, Nur Didem; Gur, Yusuf; Omruuzun, Fatih; Çetin, Yasemin (2016-09-27)
Hyperspectral imaging for gas detection applications is an under-researched topic. The same gas model is used in most of the gas detection studies in the literature. This model aims to formulate the scene covering the gas emission as well as the background and the atmosphere. Therefore, the model requires prior knowledge on transmittance, emissivity, and temperature values of the components in the scene. The commonly used approaches to estimate these parameters include atmospheric modeling and statistical i...
