Preparation of metallic line patterns from functional block copolymers
PARK, Soojin; KIM, Bokyung; Çırpan, Ali; RUSSELL, Thomas P. (Wiley, 2009-06-05)
A simple route for the preparation of nanoscopic metallic line patterns from functional block copolymers (BCPs) containing poly (2-vinylpyridine) or poly (methyl methacrylate) blocks is demonstrated. The time evolution of the surface morphologies of BCP thin films exposed to solvent vapors is studied to optimize the conditions for generating BCP microdomains oriented parallel or normal to the substrate. BCP templates are prepared by film. reconstruction or by removal of one of the copolymer microdomains, de...
Preparation of zeolite A tubes from amorphous aluminosilicate extrudates
Oezcan, Aysenur; Kalıpçılar, Halil (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2006-07-05)
A method is presented for the hydrothermal synthesis of binderless zeolite A bars and tubes with high purity from amorphous aluminosilicate extrudates. The solid that was separated from a hydrogel was mixed with an aqueous solution of hydroxyethyl cellulose to obtain a paste, which was extruded into bars and tubes. After calcination, amorphous bars and tubes were converted to zeolite A in the liquid phase that was separated from the hydrogel. The zeolite bars and tubes were composed of cubic zeolite A cryst...
Preparation of a conducting flexible material from silane coupling agent and hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene rubber by hydrolysis and condensation
Karatas, Y; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Tincer, T (Informa UK Limited, 2003-01-01)
Synthesis and characterization of a flexible polymer produced from silane coupling agent (SCA) and hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) were performed. Mechanical properties of chemically and electrochemically prepared conducting composites synthesized from this polymer were investigated. Conductivities of the composites were also measured. Polypyrrole enhanced the mechanical properties of the chemically prepared conducting composite. Doping with iodine greatly changed the conductivity of the composite....
Preparation of antimicrobial films from agricultural biomass
Seber, Ayşe Gizem; Bakır, Ufuk; Department of Biotechnology (2010)
Mainly used food packaging materials are petro-chemical based polymers which present environmental problems since they are not biodegradable and ecologically sustainable. In this study, biodegradable biofilms are produced from xylan, extracted from cotton stalk which is an agricultural biowaste without nutritional value. Antimicrobial property was given to the biofilms with either titanium dioxide sol-gel coatings or titanium dioxide powder addition into the biofilm forming solutions. The antimicrobial acti...
Preparation of Chitosan-Coated Magnetite Nanoparticles and Application for Immobilization of Laccase
Kalkan, Nuzhet Ayca; AKSOY, SERPİL; Aksoy, Eda Ayse; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2012-01-15)
In this study, immobilization of laccase (L) enzyme on magnetite (Fe(3)O(4)) nanoparticles was achieved, so that the immobilized enzyme could be used repeatedly. For this purpose, Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles were coated and functionalized with chitosan (CS) and laccase from Trametes versicolor was immobilized onto chitosan-coated magnetic nanoparticles (Fe(3)O(4)-CS) by adsorption or covalent binding after activating the hydroxyl groups of chitosan with carbodiimide (EDAC) or cyanuric chloride (CC). For chitosa...
