On the synthesis of a class of geared linkage mechanisms
Parlaktaş, Volkan; Söylemez, Eres; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
In this thesis, two types of geared linkages are studied in detail. One of the mechanisms is the geared five link mechanism for which the input and output shafts are collinear. The other is a two degree-of-freedom nine-link mechanism which is called the "geared adjustable stroke mechanism". The geared adjustable stroke mechanism uses the geared five link mechanism in its structure. The geared adjustable stroke mechanism has been used in practice, but neither of these mechanisms have been studied in the lite...
On the Electrochemical Reduction Mechanism of CaWO4 to W Powder
Erdogan, Metehan; Karakaya, İshak (2012-08-01)
The reduction mechanism of CaWO4 to W in molten eutectic CaCl2-NaCl electrolyte has been studied. Cyclic voltammetry and constant potential electrolysis tests were performed to determine the reversible cell potential. Analyses of the experimental results revealed that at least 2.2 V was required to compensate the potentials for the accompanying cell reaction and the electrode polarizations. A cell reaction was proposed by associating the experimental results and the Gibbs energy changes of the possible reac...
On the comparison of the ballistic performance of steel and laminated composite armors
Ubeyli, Mustafa; Yıldırım, Raif Orhan; Ögel, Bilgehan (2007-01-01)
Steels have been widely used as armour materials in defence applications, but they have the disadvantage of a relatively high density. Hence, they are not suitable for lightweight armour production. On the other hand, laminated composites have important potential on the reducing armour weight compared to steels for the same ballistic protection. This study presents the ballistic performance of steel against 7.62 mm armour piercing projectiles. High strength low alloy steel (50CrV4) was chosen as steel armou...
ON THE FICKIAN DIFFUSION OF ORGANIC PENETRANTS IN GLASSY-POLYMERS
TOSUN, I; Yılmaz, Levent (Wiley, 1982-01-01)
Fickian diffusion of organic penetrants in glassy polymers is formulated as a moving‐boundary problem, and the effect of concentration‐dependent diffusivity on the concentration distribution is investigated. The solutions obtained for concentration‐dependent and constant diffusivity cases are compared. The results show that the concentration distribution curves differ both quantitatively and qualitatively. It is concluded that the sharp advancing boundary between the glassy and rubbery regions is due not on...
On the mystery of the azimuthal angle of alternant hydrocarbons
Türker, Burhan Lemi (2002-07-05)
Within the limitations of the Huckel molecular orbital theory, the concept of resemblance of alternant hydrocarbons has been extended by investigating certain angles which are effective on the fine topologies of these structures.
