Substituent effects of the cycloaddition reaction of 7-substituted 5H-benzocycloheptenes with singlet oxygen and the chemistry of the benzocycloheptene endoperoxides
Guney, M; Ceylan, ZC; Dastan, A; Balcı, Metin (Canadian Science Publishing, 2005-03-01)
The cycloaddition reaction of 7-substituted 5H-benzocycloheptenes with singlet oxygen and the chemistry of the obtained endoperoxides were investigated. Reaction of carboethoxy-substituted endoperoxide with NEt3 gave a mixture of products; hydroxyketone, diketone, and carboethoxy-substituted keto-enol tautomers, whereas the reaction of methyl-substituted endoperoxide only formed a diketone under the same reaction conditions. Thermolysis, thiourea, and CoTPP reactions of the endoperoxides were also studied. ...
A general and efficient synthesis of nitrogen-substituted ferrocenes
Özçubukçu, Salih; Leifert, Annika; Bolm, Carsten (Georg Thieme Verlag KG, 2007-02-01)
Copper(l) iodide mediated Ullmann-type coupling reactions of iodoferrocene and 1,1'-diiodoferrocene has been used to synthesize N-substituted ferrocenes that are difficult to obtain by classical methods. In this manner, a range of Fc-[N]-R-type compounds have been prepared in moderate to good yields.
Development of new synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of unusual isocoumarin and indole derivatives:The chemistry of homophthalic acid
Özcan, Sevil; Balcı, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2007)
Many heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur show wide range of physiological activities and their synthesis has always been attracted the interest of chemists. The aim of this research is to develop new synthetic methodologies leading to the synthesis of new derivatives of isocoumarines, indoles, isoquinolines, benzodiazepinones and quinazolines, which have been found to show important biological activities. Starting from homophthalic acid and bishomophthalic acid the corresponding ac...
Investigation of novel topological indices and their applications in organic chemistry
Gümüş, Selçuk; Türker, Burhan Lemi; Department of Chemistry (2009)
Numerical descriptors, beginning with Wiener, and then named topological indices by Hosoya, have gained gradually increasing importance along with other descriptors for use in QSAR and QSPR studies. Being able to estimate the physical or chemical properties of a yet nonexistent substance as close as possible is very important due to huge consumption of time and money upon direct synthesis. In addition, one may face safety problem as in the case of explosives. There have been almost hundred topological indic...
Development of acyl anion precursors and their applications
Reis, Ömer; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Department of Chemistry (2005)
This thesis presents the development of new acyl anion precursors and their applications. The main concern of this thesis was to make use of acyl anion precursors in catalytic bond forming reactions. Toward this aim, previously known cyanide ion catalyzed cleavage of benzils was investigated in scope and efficiency in unsymmetrical benzoin condensation. Although benzils were proved to be useful entities as acyl anion precursors in benzoin condensation, they suffer some major drawbacks. Therefore acylphospho...
