Wake Tracking with Particle Filter
Onur, Cagla; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2013-04-26)
In the scope of underwater warfare, signature of ship wakes is attractive for its exploitation in ship detection, tracking and classification. Ship wake signature is generally more distinct than the signature of the ship. In this work, particle filter method has been simulated for target tracking using wake echo measurements. A wake model that exists in literature has been used in the simulations with some modifications. Receive level profiles when insonifying ship wake has been obtained. It has been observ...
Sleep Quality Monitoring with Ambient and Mobile Sensing
KAHVECİ, ali yavuz; Alemdar, Hande; ERSOY, CEM (2015-05-19)
Evaluating daily life quality is important in ambient intelligence applications targeted for health status monitoring. When we consider the fact that people approximately spend one-third of their lives sleeping, we need to monitor the sleep quality as well as the activities of daily living in order to be able to provide a seamless health monitoring system. In this paper, a seamless activity recognition system that makes use of multi-modal wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and mobile phones is proposed. The pr...
Sleep spindles detection using short time Fourier transform and neural networks
Gorur, Dilan; Halıcı, Uğur; Aydin, Hamdullah; Ongun, Guclu; Ozgen, Fuat; Leblebicioglu, Kemal (2002-01-01)
Sleep spindles are a hallmark of the stage 2 sleep. Their distribution over the non-REM sleep is clinically important. In this paper, a method that detects the sleep spindles in sleep EEG is proposed. Short time Fourier Transform is used for feature extraction. Both multilayer perceptron and Support Vector Machine are utilized in detection of the spindles in sleep EEG for comparison. The classification performance of MLP is found to be 88.7% and that of SVM as 95.4%. It should be noted that there might be d...

WAKE-UP RECEIVERS FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS: BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES
Demirkol, Ilker; Ersoy, Cem; Onur, Ertan (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2009-08-01)
For successful data delivery, the destination nodes should be listening to the medium to receive data when the sender node starts data communication. To achieve this synchronization, there are different rendezvous schemes, among which the most energy-efficient is utilizing wake-up receivers. Current hardware technologies of wake-up receivers enable us to evaluate them as a promising solution for wireless sensor networks. In this article the benefits achieved with wake-up receivers are investigated along wit...
