Influence of slag fineness on the strength and heat evolution of multiple-clinker blended cements
Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (2017-11-30)
Three clinkers and a blast furnace slag, ground separately, were combined to produce 27 cements. Each cement consisted of 35% fine (similar to 6000 cm(2)/g), 25% intermediate (similar to 4000 cm(2)/g), and 40% coarse (similar to 2500 cm(2)/g) particles. Slag made up the fine or intermediate particles in the blended cements, clinkers making up the remainder. Compressive strength was measured up to 28 d on mortars and heat evolution was investigated up to 48 h using isothermal calorimetry. Portland cements wi...
Influence of deformable geofoam bufers on the static and dynamic behaviors of cantilever retaining walls
Ertuğrul, Özgür Lütfi; Özkan, M. Yener; Department of Civil Engineering (2011)
Static and dynamic interaction mechanism of the retained soil-compressible geofoam buffer and yielding retaining structures requires further investigation. The present study, initiated on this motive, discusses the results of 1-g physical model tests and numerical analyses of cantilever retaining walls with and without deformable geofoam buffers between the wall and cohesionless granular backfill. 0.7m high walls with various wall thicknesses were utilized in the physical modeling. Dynamic tests were carrie...
Influence of ground motion intensity on the performance of low- and mid-rise ordinary concrete buildings
Akkar, S; Sucuoğlu, Haluk; Yakut, Ahmet (2004-05-21)
Fragility functions are determined for low- and mid-rise ordinary concrete buildings. A hybrid approach is employed where building capacities are obtained from field data and their dynamic responses are calculated by response history analysis. Lateral stiffness, strength and deformation capacities of the sample buildings are determined by pushover analyses. Uncertainties in lateral stiffness, strength and damage limit states are expressed by using statistical distributions. The seismic deformation demands o...

Influence of thermal spiking on properties of carbon fibre reinforced plastic
Ankara, AO; Weisgerber, Denise M.; Vilsmeier, JW (Informa UK Limited, 1986-11)
A study has been made of the effect of thermal spiking on the strength and thermomechanical behaviour of Fibredux 914C/T300 and Fibredux 914C/XAS carbon fibre reinforced plastic materials. The unidirectional material was aged in a hot humid atmosphere before thermally spiking up to 130°C. The thermomechanical behaviour was measured using the torsion pendulum technique and interlaminar shear, compression, and transverse tensile tests at room temperature and 120°C. Shear strength was measured by short beam be...
