Ground support has always been considered as a challenging issue in all underground operations. Many forms of support systems and supporting techniques are available in the mining/tunnelling industry. In the last two decades, a new polymer based material, Thin Spray-on Liner (TSL), has attained a place in the market as an alternative to the current areal ground support systems. Although TSL provides numerous merits and has different application purposes, the knowledge on mechanical properties and performanc...
Tensile mode fracture toughness experiments on andesite rock using disc and semi-disc bend geometries with varying loading spans
Tutluoglu, Levent; Batan, Ceren; Aliha, M.R.M. (2022-06-01)
Purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of loading span on mode I fracture toughness for tests conducted by three-point bend geometries. Mode I fracture toughness tests were conducted on Ankara Golbasi Andesite with straight notched disc bending (SNDB) specimens of thicknesses 50 mm and 60 mm. Loading spans were varied in a wide range between 40 mm and 90 mm corresponding to span/radius ratios of S/R = 0.40 to 0.90. Three-point bend tests were conducted with the semi-circular bending (SCB) cor...
Tensile behavior of chemically bonded post-installed anchors in low strength reinforced concretes
Mazılıgüney, Levent; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2007)
After the 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake, the use of chemically bonded post-installed anchors has seen a great growth for retrofits in Turkey. Currently, chemically bonded post-installed anchors are designed from related tables provided by adhesive manufacturers and a set of equations based on laboratory pullout tests on normal or high strength concretes. Unfortunately, concrete compressive strengths of existing buildings, which need retrofit for earthquake resistance, ranges within 5 to 16 MPa. The determination ...
