Soil erosion risk mapping using geographic information systems : a case study on Kocadere creek watershed, İzmir
Okalp, Kıvanç; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2005)
Soil erosion is a major global environmental problem that is increasing year by year in Turkey. Preventing soil erosion requires political, economic and technical actions; before these actions we must learn properties and behaviors of our soil resources. The aims of this study are to estimate annual soil loss rates of a watershed with integrated models within GIS framework and to map the soil erosion risk for a complex terrain. In this study, annual soil loss rates are estimated using the Universal Soil Los...
Soil CO2 Flux and Temperature Measurements in Kızıldere Geothermal Field

Geothermal fields in Turkey have substantially higher carbon dioxide content compared to a typical geothermal field in the world. Geothermal Emission Control (GECO) project aims to reduce carbon emissions by reinjecting produced carbon dioxide from a pilot reinjection well. A high-resolution CO2 flux meter is used to measure the surface carbon dioxide flux and temperature parameters in Kızıldere field, which is one of the demonstration fields in this project. The aim of these measurements is to map the natu...
Soil Improvement with mini jetgrout columns and geogrid reinforced mechanical fill system under a machine foundation
Dadaşbilge, Ozan; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan (null; 2018-09-16)
A shallow (mat) foundation of 21 m x 21 m plan dimensions was constructed using fiber reinforced concrete in an automotive spare part factory in Kocaeli, Turkey. After placing two similar machines of 785 tons and 605 tons weight on the same foundation, differential settlements were observed. The machines are 5,2 m wide and 15,7 m long each, and the clear distance between them is 6,0 m. Both of the machines were leveled with adjustment screws on their frames a couple of times, but the settlements of 0,5 – 2,...
