Survival of probiotic microorganisms during storage after marketing
Köse, Işkın; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Cebeci Aydın, Aysun; Department of Biotechnology (2011)
Probiotics are viable microorganisms that show beneficial effects on the health of the host by improving their intestinal microflora. The microorganisms applied as probiotics mainly include Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. Probiotics can inhibit the bacterial pathogens, reduce serum cholesterol levels, improve lactose tolerance and stimulate the immune response. They also have other properties such as; tolerance to acid and bile salts, adherence to gastrointestinal cells for colonization, resistan...
Survival of the Posidonia Oceanica cuttings transplanted into the Northeastern Levant Sea
ÇELEBİ ERGİN, BİLLUR; Gücü, Ali Cemal; Ok, Meltem; SAKINAN, SERDAR; Akoğlu, Ekin (2007-04-09)
In the present study Posidonia oceanica shoots collected near from Bozyazı- Mersin are transplanted to 3 different sites along the south eastern coasts of Turkey, at 2 of which Posidonia oceanica meadows are not present naturally. The survival of transplants was followed from 2004 until recently. The success of the transplantation at the most eastern station, though the high seawater temperature, suggests that there may be combination of environmental reasons for the absence of Posidonia oceanica meadows in...
CONTROL OF INSECTICIDE RESISTANCE IN LABORATORY POPULATIONS OF HOUSE-FLY (DIPTERA, MUSCIDAE) BY INTRODUCTION OF SUSCEPTIBILITY GENES
KENCE, M; Kence, Aykut (1993-04-01)
We investigated the effects of immigration of individuals carrying susceptibility alleles on the level of resistance in populations of the house fly, Musca domestica L., selected for malathion resistance. Two types of males, WHO/IN males (homozygous for susceptibility genes) and A14-WHO males (heterozygous for the second chromosome) were released into the resistant populations in 1:9, 1:1, and 9:1 ratios of immigrant/resident males. In both experiments, we observed that increasing the ratio of immigrant to ...

Persistence of isoflavones formononetin and biochanin A in soil and their effects on soil microbe populations
Gözen, Ayşe Gül; Nair, MG (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-02-01)
Persistence of the isoflavones formononetin and biochanin A in soil was investigated by HPLC analysis. Biochanin A disappeared more rapidly than formononetin in nonsterile soil. In soil planted with corn seedlings, the disappearance was dramamtic for both isoflavones. The results suggested that soil microbial populations were able to metabolize these isoflavones. The response of several microbial populations to isoflavone amendments was measured in soil samples obtained from Michigan potato fields. Results ...
