Critical behaviour of the polarization, tilt angle, electric susceptibility and the specific heat close to the SmA-ferroelectric SmC (SmC*) phase transitions
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Kilit, E. (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
This study gives the temperature dependence of the two order parameters, namely, polarization P and the tilt angle theta, when there is a biquadratic coupling P-2 theta(2) in the expansion of the Landau free energy. This applies to the electric-field-induced SmA-Ferro-Electric SmC (SmC*) phase transition. From this expansion of the Landau free energy in terms of the polarization and the tilt angle, we obtain the temperature dependence of the electric susceptibility chi and the electric field dependence of t...
Unified theory of linear instability of anisotropic surfaces and interfaces under capillary, electrostatic, and elastostatic forces: The regrowth of epitaxial amorphous silicon
Ogurtani, Tarik Omer (American Physical Society (APS), 2006-10-01)
The first-order unified linear instability analysis (LISA) of the governing equation for the evolution of surfaces and interfaces under capillary, electromigration (EM), and elastostatic forces is developed. A formal treatment of the thermomigration (Soret effect) driven by the nonuniform temperature distribution caused by exothermic phase transformation (growth) at the surface and interfacial layers is presented and its apparent influence on the capillary force in connection with the stability is also esta...
Investigation of localized levels in GaS0.5Se0.5 layered crystals by means of electrical, space-charge limited current and photoconductivity measurements
Qasrawi, AF; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Wiley, 2002-11-16)
To identify the localized levels in GaS0.5Se0.5 single crystals, the dark electrical conductivity, current-voltage characteristics and photoconductivity measurements were carried out in the temperature range of 250-400 K. Temperature dependence of dark electrical conductivity and the space-charge limited current studies indicate the presence of a single discrete trapping level located at 0.31 eV below the conduction band with a density of about 1.3 x 10(15) cm(-3). The conductivity data above 320 K reveal a...
EMPIRICAL TIGHT-BINDING TOTAL ELECTRONIC-ENERGY CALCULATION FOR SINH2M (N = 1 TO 6, M = 1 TO 3) CLUSTERS
Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (Wiley, 1993-06-01)
The stable structures of SinH2m (n = 1 to 6, m = 1 to 3) clusters are investigated by the total electronic energy calculation using an empirical tight-binding (ETB) method. It seems that bridged H-bond models are also possible for small Si(n)H(m) clusters.
Perfect metamaterial absorber for applications in sustainable and high-efficiency solar cells
Rufangura, Patrick; Sabah, Cumali (SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng, 2018-04-01)
The current state of energy is characterized by complex challenges in production processes and environmental issues. With the world population continuing to multiply faster and the globalization process, additional energy production is needed to meet future demands. Solar energy is one of the best sustainable energy resources, which is expected to play a vital role in this scenario. One of the best techniques to harvest this resource is through solar photovoltaic technology, which produces electricity direc...
