Semi-classical description of spinodal instabilities of asymmetric nuclear matter in a relativistic stochastic model
Saatçi, Selen; Yılmaz, Osman; Ayık, Şakir; Department of Physics (2013)
A hot and dense nuclear matter expands and cools down. It may enter the spinodal region, where uniform matter is mechanically unstable. Small amplitude density fluctuations grow rapidly and leads to formation of nuclear clusters, called nuclear multifragmentation process. It is considered that the spinodal instability provides a dynamical mechanism for liquid-gas phase transformation of nuclear matter. In this work, the spinodal dynamics of the asymmetric nuclear matter is studied within the stochastic exte...
Novel supramolecular organocatalyst for asymmetric aldol reactions
Demircan, Ezgi; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2013)
The proline–calix[4]arene thiourea host–guest complex catalyzed intermolecular aldol reaction of aromatic aldehydes with cyclohexanone is developed. The anti-configured products were obtained in good yields and high enantioselectivities. The reaction is proposed to work via modified Houk–List model, where the carboxylate part of the proline constitutes a supramolecular system with the thiourea. The outcome of the study indicates the influence of the calix[4]arene thiourea on the reactivity and selectivity i...
Quantal description of spinodal instabilities in a symmetric nuclear matter
Acar Çakırca, Fatma; Yılmaz, Osman; Ayık, Şakir; Department of Physics (2017)
Spinodal instability mechanism and early development of density fluctuations for asymmetric hot nuclear matter produced in heavy-ion collisions are investigated in non-relativistic and relativistic stochastic mean-field approaches. In relativistic approach, a stochastic extension of the relativistic mean-field approximation based on non-linear Walecka model employed in a quantal framework. The mediator rho meson is added to the Walecka model in order to investigate the isospin dependence of the system. The gro...
Numerical investigation of vortex formation at asymmetric horizontal intakes
Sungur, Alper; Köken, Mete; Department of Civil Engineering (2018)
Given equations in literature for critical submergence depth is for symmetrical intakes; however, in practice, approach flow conditions are not symmetrical for most of the intakes. In this study, formation of the vortices in a horizontal water intake structure composed of a reservoir-pipe system is investigated with 3D numerical modelling using Flow-3D software. The geometrical and hydraulic conditions of the system such as the distance between the side walls of the horizontal intake, pipe diameters and the...
