Prediction of multiphase flow properties from nuclear magnetic resonance imaging
Karaman, Türker; Akın, Serhat; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2009)
In this study a hybrid Pore Network (PN) model that simulates two-phase (water-oil) drainage and imbibition mechanisms is developed. The developed model produces Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) T2 relaxation times using correlations available in the literature. The developed PN was calibrated using experimental relative permeability data obtained for Berea Sandstone, Kuzey Marmara Limestone, Yeniköy Dolostone and Dolomitic Limestone core plugs. Pore network body and throat parameters were obtained from ser...
Quantal effects on growth of instabilities in nuclear matter
Kaya, Dilan; Gökalp, Ahmet; Department of Physics (2004)
The quantal BoltzmannاLangevin equation is used to obtain a dispersion relation for the growth rates of instabilities in infinite nuclear matter. The dispersion relation is solved numerically for three different potentials. The quantal results are compared with the semi-classical solutions. It is seen that with the inclusion of the quantal effects the growth rates of the fastest growing modes in the system are reduced and these modes have the tendency to occur at longer wavelengths for all the potentials co...
Nuclear energy versus solar energy (nuke vs. pv) : the comparison of their economic feasibilities and environmental aspects for Turkey
Karaveli, Abdullah Buğrahan; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin; Soytaş, Uğur; Department of Earth System Science (2014)
Having global regime with increasing environmental threats, reaching limits to growth, ascending needs and aspirations, humanity is seeking for new options not only to meet the needs but also to reconcile economic feasibility considering environmental vulnerability. Energy is at the hub of above mentioned concerns as taking a part in both of creating problems and of producing solutions. This study examines and compares the economic feasibility and environmental effectiveness of nuclear energy and solar ener...
Multi-criteria decision making in site selection for nuclear power plants
Tuncer, Berna; Dener Akkaya, Ayşen.; Department of Statistics (2019)
Nuclear energy is an important alternative energy source. However the construction of nuclear power plants (NPP) requires the consideration of various factors, such as environmental, economic, socioeconomic, health and safety. Accordingly, selection of the most suitable site for the construction of a nuclear power plant yields to a multi-criteria decision making problem. Seismic hazard, environmental conditions, population, health hazards, availability of water resources (for cooling purposes) are among the...
