Experimental investigation of structural systems made of sheathed cold-formed steel wall panels
Pehlivan, Barış Mert; Baran, Eray; Department of Civil Engineering (2023-1-12)
Cold-formed steel (CFS) structural systems are considered to be an innovative and newly developing construction method. Because of advantages such as lower fabrication periods, high strength/weight ratio and ease of construction, CFS structural systems have been used increasingly all around the world, including seismically active areas. Although there have been many studies in the literature, CFS structural systems are relatively new for the civil engineering practice and few existing specifications regardi...
Numerical modeling of cold-formed steel sheathed shear walls under lateral loading
Topçuoğlugil , Yağmur; Baran, Eray; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
Cold-formed steel (CFS) structural systems have been used increasingly in seismically active regions. Shear walls consisting of CFS framing and sheathing panels constitute one type of lateral force resisting system for such CFS framed buildings. The purpose of this study is to develop an efficient numerical model to predict the lateral load response of shear walls that are framed with CFS profiles and sheathed with oriented strand board (OSB) panels. Numerical modeling of shear walls was conducted in OpenSe...
Experimental and numerical investigation of cfs-concrete composite trusses
Güldür, Hazal; Baran, Eray; Department of Civil Engineering (2018)
Cold-formed steel (CFS) structural systems have been intensely studied especially due to the economy and ease of implementation that they provide. A common failure mode of CFS members is the local instability of the section. The aim of this study is to control the local instability in CFS floor trusses by providing concrete infill inside compression chord members. Numerical and experimental studies were conducted in order to investigate the flexural behavior of steel-concrete composite trusses made of CFS s...
Experimental and analytical investigation of cold-formed steel floor trusses under gravity loading
Dizdar, Çağan; Baran, Eray; Department of Civil Engineering (2017)
Cold-Formed Steel structures are getting increasingly popular in the market with their economic and short construction duration advantages. One of the most common floor system used in CFS buildings utilizes trusses made of CFS members. Despite their increasing use, behavior of CFS floor trusses has been the subject of very limited research. The governing failure mode of these structures under gravity loading is usually local buckling of compression chord elements. Therefore, a reliable design of such struct...
Search for New Cathode Compositions for Mildly Acidic Zn-MnO2 Batteries
Akbaş, Yiğit; Kalay, Yunus Eren; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-3-25)
This thesis focuses on finding a new MnO2-based cathode composition(s) for Zn-ion batteries. For this purpose combinatorial approach was employed using thick film cathodes deposited via magnetron sputtering. The system under study was MnO2 alloyed with NaMnO2, Bi2O3, NiO. For this purpose, four sputter targets were prepared. MnO2 target was in 3-inch diameter placed in the central position and the other oxides were 2-inch in diameter placed 120° to one another forming a triangle. Substrates were 12.7 mm in ...
