Effective gauge theories from fuzzy extra dimensions
Ünal, Gönül; Kürkcüoğlu, Seçkin; Department of Physics (2016)
In this thesis, we investigate the formulation and various aspects of gauge theories with fuzzy extra dimensions. In SU (N ) gauge theories coupled to a suitable number of adjoint scalar fields, we determine a family of fuzzy vacuum configurations dynamically emerging after the spontaneously symmetry breaking of the gauge symmetry. The emergent models are conjectured to be effective U (n) (n < N ) gauge theories with fuzzy extra dimensions. Making use of the equivariant parametrization technique and focusin...
Stochastic approach to fusion dynamics
Yılmaz, Bülent; Yılmaz, Osman; Department of Physics (2007)
This doctoral study consists of two parts. In the first part, the quantum statistical effects on the formation process of the heavy ion fusion reactions have been investigated by using the c-number quantum Langevin equation approach. It has been shown that the quantum effects enhance the over-passing probability at low temperatures. In the second part, we have developed a simulation technique for the quantum noises which can be approximated by two-term exponential colored noise.
Data driven model discovery and control of longitudinal missile dynamics
Matpan, Hasan; Koku, Ahmet Buğra; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2021-9-07)
Dynamical systems in nature are generally nonlinear and usually contains many hidden dynamics. Therefore, the need for data-driven model discovery and control methods continues. The most popular of these methods is neural networks-based methods nowadays. However, excessive data requirements, long training times and most importantly lack of interpretability of results are the main problems in neural networks-based system identification methods. Among the many other methods used for model discovery, SINDY (Sp...
Optimal control and reduced order modelling of Fitzhugh–Nagumo equation
Küçükseyhan , Tuğba; Karasözen, Bülent; Uzunca, Murat; Department of Scientific Computing (2017)
In this thesis, we investigate model order reduction and optimal control of FitzHugh-Nagumo equation (FHNE). FHNE is coupled partial differential equations (PDEs) of activator-inhibitor types. Diffusive FHNE is a model for the transmission of electrical impulses in a nerve axon, whereas the convective FHNE is a model for blood coagulation in a moving excitable media. We discretize these state FHNEs using a symmetric interior penalty Galerkin (SIPG) method in space and an average vector field (AVF) method in...
Design of an inertia measurement device for stores
Kılıç, Berkay; Dal, Hüsnü; Tüzün, Aydın; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
In this thesis, design of a device, which can measure mass properties of missiles or their sub-components in a single test setup, is expressed. An object, whose mass properties are going to be calculated, is attached to the device and three-dimensional, oscillatory motion about a specific point is supplied to that object. During this motion, velocity and acceleration values of the object are measured simultaneously with the force and torque values at the connection point. Mass properties of the object are c...
