A Model Study on the Possible Effects of an External Electrical Field on Enzymes Having Dinuclear Iron Cluster [2Fe-2S]

2012
Türker, Lemi
Hydrogenases which catalyze the H2 ↔ 2H+ + 2e− reaction are metalloenzymes that can be divided into two classes, the NiFe and Fe enzymes, on the basis of their metal content. Iron-sulfur clusters [2Fe-2S] and [4Fe-4S] are common in ironhydrogenases. In the present model study, [2Fe-2S] cluster has been considered to visualize the effect of external electric field on various quantum chemical properties of it. In the model, all the cysteinyl residues are in the amide form. The PM3 type semiempirical calculations have been performed for the geometry optimization of the model structure in the absence and presence of the external field. Then, single point DFT calculations (B3LYP/6-31+G(d)) have been carried out. Depending on the direction of the field, the chemical reactivity of the model enzyme varies which suggests that an external electric field could, under proper conditions, improve the enzymatic hydrogen production.

An investigation of the formation mechanism of allene or alkyne in the 6,7-benzobicyclo[3,2.1]octane system by deuterium labeling experiments
Taskesenligil, Y; Tumer, F; Kazaz, C; Balcı, Metin (1999-01-01)
In order to reveal the real intermediate in the base-promoted reaction of 1, 3-bromo-4,4-dideuterio-6,7-benaobicyclo[3.2.1]octa-2,6-diene 10 was synthesized and its HBr elimination reaction studied. Reaction of 10 with potassium tert-butoxide yielded butoxyl ether 18 in which proton-deuterium exchange has occured.
A novel one-pot synthesis of ferrocenyl-substituted 1,2,4-oxadiazoles
Zora, Metin; Kelgokmen, YILMAZ (Elsevier BV, 2014-06-01)
One-pot synthesis of 5-ferrocenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles via the reaction between 3-ferrocenylpropynal and amidoximes is described. 3-Ferrocenylpropynal reacts with a variety of amidoximes in the presence of KOH in refluxing dioxane to afford a broad range of 5-ferrocenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole derivatives. The reaction first produces the corresponding conjugate addition product which, upon cyclization and rearrangement, yields the targeted 1,2,4-oxadiazole. The reaction appears to be general for a diversity of amidox...
A novel synthesis of optically active alpha-amino acids
Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 1997-01-01)
A new enantioselective synthesis of alpha- amino acids are described in which the key step is the enantioselective reduction of E, and Z furyl ketone oxime ethers with chiral boron complexes. The chirality of amino acid is fully controlled by appropriate choice of geometrical isomer of the oxime ether.
A DFT study on CO oxidation on Pd-4 and Rh-4 clusters and adsorbed Pd and Rh atoms on CeO2 and Ce(0.75)Z(r0.25)O(2) supports for TWC applications
Gerceker, Duygu; Önal, Işık (2013-11-15)
CO oxidation reaction mechanisms and energetics are examined on adsorbed Pd-4 and Rh-4 clusters and adsorbed Pd and Rh atoms on CeO2 and Ce0.75Zr0.25 O-2 support structures using DFT methods. Activation barriers and TS structures are computed with CI-NEB method. On cluster adsorbed systems, Zr affects CO binding position and O-2 adsorption mode. Energetically, formation of two CO2 molecules without barrier and surface regeneration is possible only on Pd-4-CeO2 surface. With metal atom substituted surfaces, ...
A density functional theory study of C-H bond activation of methane on a bridge site of M-O-M-ZSM-5 Clusters (M = Au, Ag, Fe and Cu)
Kurnaz, Emine; Fellah, Mehmet Ferdi; Önal, Işık (2011-02-01)
C-H bond activation of methane on a bridge site M-O-M- of ZSM-5 (M = Au, Ag, Fe and Cu) clusters has been performed by means of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations with the utilization of [Si6Al2O9H14(M-O-M](2+) (where M = Au, Ag, Fe and Cu) cluster models representing ZSM-5 surfaces. According to the activation barrier data based on TS calculations. The following activity order of clusters with respect to their activation barriers could be classified: Ag approximate to Au > Cu Fe for Metal-O-Metal...
