On the outburst light curves of black hole soft X-ray transients
Ertan, Ünal; Kızıloğlu, Ümit; Alpar, M. Ali; Department of Physics (2002)
We explore the X-ray outburst light curves of black-hole soft X-ray transients. First, the analytical solutions for pure viscous disk evolution are investigated by using the time independent kinematic viscosities in the form v <x RP. The illustrative viscosity models which give best fits to the observed X-ray data with reasonable initial conditions are also examined through the observed in ner disk properties in quiescence. It is seen that the viscosity law power law index (p ~ 1) can account for both the o...
On the summer mesoscale variability of the Black Sea
Besiktepe, ST; Lozano, CJ; Robinson, AR (Journal of Marine Research/Yale, 2001-07-01)
The evolution of the Black Sea temperature, salinity and circulation, from large scale to mesoscale, is studied using a data-driven primitive equation simulation. The data are drawn from (i) a basin-wide hydrographic survey, CoMSBlack'92, obtained in the Summer of 1992; (ii) wind stress derived from wind analyses of the Sevastopol MSIA/URHI Office; (iii) climatological heat fluxes; and (iv) climatological river outflows. The primitive equation model is from the Harvard Ocean Prediction System. The simulatio...

On the elastic-plastic shrink fit with supercritical interference
Gamer, U; Müftü, Sinan (Wiley, 1990)
Shrink fits with perfectly elastic-plastic hub material cannot be treated with the help of Tresca's yield criterion, if the ratio of outer and inner diameter as well as the interference exceed certain limits. For linear hardening material, however, a solution exists for all radii ratios. It is shown that, for small hardening, the material in the neighbourhood of the interface undergoes a twofold change of the yield condition.
