The energy situation in OIC countries- the possible contribution of renewable energy-resources

1989-12
Taşdemiroğlu, Erol
The paper reviews the socioeconomic situation and energy utilization in Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries which vary considerably. The review indicates that growing energy requirements are associated with economic development and population increase. Renewable energy utilization is indicated as an appropriate alternative for providing a considerable portion of future energy demand in certain energy-consuming sectors. When reviewing the present state of the art of major renewable energy technologies, particular attention is paid to both direct and indirect solar technologies. Possible adaption of renewables into the socioeconomic structures of OIC countries is discussed. The programme of action for renewables in the OIC is stressed, pointing to the priority attached to enhancing the renewable energy contribution.

The merit order effect of wind and river type hydroelectricity generation on Turkish electricity prices
Acar, Berkan; Selcuk, Orhun; Dastan, Seyit Ali (Elsevier BV, 2019-09-01)
The environmental concerns and dependency on gas imports push Turkish policy makers to find ways of increasing the share of renewable sources in electricity generation. Providing incentives for renewable energy in the form of feed-in-tariffs is one of the measures to achieve this goal. Basing on the data of Turkish electricity market operator, we quantified the magnitude of the price effects of wind and river type hydro generations on hourly average of day-ahead prices. We find that wind and river type hydr...
Promotion of Solar Heat in Industrial Processes: Policy and Law Analysis Method Proposal with Focus on Turkey and Germany
Erden Topal, Yelda; Artantaş, Onur Çağdaş; Akdemir, Sevgi Deniz (2022-11-10)
In this research paper, we propose a method to examine the policy and legal framework for solar heat in industrial processes with a comparative analysis of Germany and Turkey. To enable industry actors to make use of the large growth potential of SHIP with its numerous potential application areas, targeted policies and legislation must be adopted. For this reason, this research paper aims at filling the respective gap to analyzing and designing renewable energy law and policy framework for SHIP with a propo...
Measuring achievements towards SDG 14, life below water, in the United Arab Emirates
Gülseven, Osman (Elsevier BV, 2020-07-01)
This study analyzes the marine policy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in achieving sustainable development goal 14, life below water. The United Nations (UN) definition of SDG 14 provides an international framework for the protection of coastal ecosystems with a particular emphasis on sustainable fishery. However, several targets included in this goal are ambiguous, where comparative data does not exist in UN databases. Bertelsmann-Stiftung sustainable development and Ocean Health Index (OHI) databases su...
Appraising the integration of sustainable development into sectoral policies: The case of Turkish Science and Technology policies
Erdil, Erkan (Science And Technology Policies Research Center, Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey), 2009)
This paper presents the results of a study investigating how sustainable development can be integrated in Turkish science and technology policies. It contributes to the elaboration of the national sustainable development strategy and to the implementation of the EU acquis. The project’s originality for Turkey lies in its methodology (a participatory approach), and in its topic since sustainable development integration has never been dealt with in Turkey. Suggestions to improve this integration include stren...
Neoliberal co-optation and authoritarian renewal: social entrepreneurship networks in Jordan and Morocco
Kreıtmeyr-koska, Nadıne (Informa UK Limited, 2019-04-16)
This paper analyzes social entrepreneurship networks (SENs) - composed of social entrepreneurs, business and political elites, and international actors - in Jordan and Morocco and how they foster processes of authoritarian renewal through neoliberal forms of co-optation. I argue that these new neoliberal networks and pre-existing patterns of social interaction complement each other, fostering linkages between well-established elites and hand-picked social entrepreneurs as well as societal groups. The two ca...
