Equilibrium studies of sodium-ammonium potassium-ammonium and calcium-ammonium exchanges on clinoptilolite zeolite

Forward and reverse ion-exchange isotherms for the binary sodium-ammonium, potassium-ammonium, and calcium-ammonium systems on clinoptilolite have been measured in aqueous solutions at a total concentration of 0.1 equiv/dm3 and at 298 K. Prior to exchange experiments it was attempted to prepare homoionic forms of the zeolite by exhaustive treatments with appropriate salt solutions of cations. With no binary exchanges, full replacement of the cation by the ammonium ion is observed, which conflicts with some earlier work on clinoptilolite. Despite the observed partial exchange levels, clinoptilolite shows a very high preference for ammonium ion over sodium and calcium but not over potassium. Thermodynamic values for the exchanges were calculated and compared with data in the literature. Both the selectivity and thermodynamic affinity sequence, in agreement with previous work reported in the literature, are K+ > NH+ 4 > Na+ > Ca2+.

Estimation of Binding Constants of Cd(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) with Polyethyleneimine (PEI) by Polymer Enhanced Ultrafiltration (PEUF) Technique
Kadioglu, Sezin Islamoglu; Yılmaz, Levent; Ozbelge, H. Onder (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
Continuous and batch processes of polymer enhanced ultrafiltration for the estimation of binding constants of divalent cadmium, nickel, and zinc ions have been elaborated. Polyethyleneimine was used as a complexation agent. Effect of pH and ionic strength on the binding ability of target metal ions to polyethyleneimine were estimated by continuous mode PEUF system. A mathematical model was developed to estimate apparent complexation constants of metal ions with PEI. The development of this model, which is i...
Removal of methylene blue by new tunable aryl/alkyl ionic liquids/salts (TAAILs) from aqueous solution
Özdemir, Melek (Informa UK Limited, 2019-10-16)
The removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution has been investigated using new tunable 1-aryl-2-alkyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazolium hexafluorophosphate salts ([Ph(R)C(R?)pz][PF6], R: -Cl, -Br, -Me, -OMe, R?: -C2H5, or -C4H9) as an extractant and methylene chloride as a diluent. The influence of p-substituent and alkyl chain length on the removal efficiency of MB from aqueous solution was investigated. The obtained results show that MB was extracted from aqueous solution with high extraction efficiency up...
Use of Specifically Tailored Chelating Polymers for Boron Removal from Aqueous Solutions by Polymer Enhanced Ultrafiltration
Doganay, Ceren Oktar; Ozbelge, H. Onder; Bicak, Niyazi; AYDOĞAN, NİHAL; Yılmaz, Levent (Informa UK Limited, 2011-01-01)
Two selective functional polychelatogens, namely hydroxyethylaminoglycerol functioned poly(glycidylmethacrylate (PNS) and Poly(4-Vinyl-1,3-dioxalan-2-one-co-vinyl acetate) (COP) were synthesized and utilized in polymer-enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) to remove boron from the aqueous solution. The effect of operating parameters on boron retention was investigated. PNS was synthesized in three molecular weights to observe the effect of molecular weight in borate retention. Increase in pH increased boron reten...
Removal of hexavalent chromium anions via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration using a fully ionized polyelectrolyte
HAKTANIR, CEREN; Ozbelge, H. Onder; Bicak, Niyazi; Yılmaz, Levent (Informa UK Limited, 2017-01-01)
A fully ionized polyelectrolyte was synthesized for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions by continuous polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF). Effect of operating parameters such as pH, loading, polymer, and competing ion concentrations were examined. Highest Cr(VI) retention was obtained at a loading of 0.01 at pH 4. Increasing both polymer and chromate concentrations at a fixed loading of 0.01 decreased the retention which demonstrated the effect of crowding. In the presence of competing anions such as ...
Adsorption of volatile organic compounds on soil and prediction of desorption breakthroughs
Yeo, SD; Tuncer, E; Akgerman, A (Informa UK Limited, 1997-01-01)
Vapor extraction of volatile organic compounds from soil was investigated by performing adsorption and desorption experiments of trichloroethylene, trichloroethane, and chlorobenzene on soil particles. The adsorption breakthrough curves were obtained using a dynamic response technique based on frontal analysis chromatography. The shape of the breakthrough curves indicated that the adsorption process was close to an ideal adsorption system of no mass transfer resistance, no axial dispersion, and infinitesima...
