Organic electroluminescent devices recently have been focus of attention. Since the first demonstrations in this field, rapid developments have occurred in the usage of organic polyaromatic compounds and their derivatives for the purpose of multi-layer structures, multi-color, and full-color organic light-emitting diode displays. In the part-1 of the present short review, recent technical developments in the preparation and structure of organic light emitting diodes with special attention to organic emitters involving polyaromatic kernels have been considered

Optical and electroluminescent properties of polyfluorene copolymers and their blends
Çırpan, Ali; KARASZ, Frank E. (Elsevier BV, 2005-01-26)
Light emitting properties of several polyfluorene (PF) copolymers (P1-P4) and their blends have been investigated. Light emitting diodes were fabricated with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al. The EL peak wavelengths were 421 nut (violet), 505, 513 nm (green) and 570 nm (yellow) for PF copolymers and 510,535 nm (green) for P1/P2 and P1/P3 blends, respectively. Forster energy transfer in the photoluminescence and electroluminescence of the polymer blends P1/P2 and P1/P3 was studied. The LED us...
Benzotriazole containing conjugated polymers for multipurpose organic electronic applications
Balan, Abidin; Baran, Derya; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2011-01-01)
Benzotriazole (BTz) containing polymers have recently emerged in organic electronic applications and they are increasingly attracting a great deal of attention. These polymers are reviewed from a general perspective in terms of their potential use in three main fields, electrochromics (ECs), organic solar cells (OSCs) and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). In order to have a better insight into the properties of these polymers, they were compared with similar polymers. Good solubility, optical and elect...
Electrochromic and photovoltaic applications of benzotriazole bearing donor acceptor type conjugated polymers
Baran, Derya; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2010)
Organic semi-conductors are of great interest since these compounds can be utilized as active layers in many device applications such as ECDs, LEDs and solar cells. Incorporating the benzotriazole units into the polymer backbone enhances the optical properties of donor units. Hexyl thiophene and pyrrole are commonly used as electron donor materials. Benzotriazole can be coupled to hexyl thiophene or pyrrole to yield materials which can be polymerized to give donor acceptor type polymers. These materials are...
Electrospinning of cyclodextrin functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers
Uyar, Tamer; Balan, Abidin; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Besenbacher, Flemming (Elsevier BV, 2009-01-16)
Cyclodextrin functionalized PMMA nanofibers (PMMA/CD) were successfully produced by electrospinning technique with the goal to develop functional nanowebs. Bead-free uniform electrospun PMMA/CD nanofibers were obtained from a homogeneous solution of CDs and PMMA in dimethylformamide (DMF) using three different types of CDs, alpha-CD, beta-CD and gamma-CD. The electrospinning conditions were optimized in order to form bead-free PMMA/CD nanofibers by varying the concentrations of PMMA and CDs in the solutions...
ELECTROLUMINESCENT PROPERTIES OF CERTAIN POLYAROMATIC COMPOUNDS: PART 2-ORGANIC EMITTERS
Türker, Burhan Lemi; Tapan, Alper; Gumus, Selcuk (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
This review is based on the electroluminescent and optical properties of certain polyaromatics in OLEDs with special attention to their specific function in the emitting layer, performance and emissive color. DAD and TDAD dopants depending on their concentration in the emitting layer exhibit good efficiencies and color purity for blue emission. When copolyethers with diphenylanthracene emitting segments are used in a single layer diode, visible pure blue light (440 nm maximum) around 15-20V can be achieved....
