Analysis of infilled reinforced concrete frames strengthened with FRPS

2005-06-01
In the past various researchers conducted numerous experimental studies, in which different rehabilitation techniques were developed. Among them, use of fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) was found to be an effective alternative with rapid retrofit time and providing substantial increases in strength with limited ductility. In order to design and detail FRPs based on the results of experiments, analysis and design procedures need to be established. The objective of this study is to fill this gap and propose analysis guidelines for FRP strengthened infill walls for use in seismic evaluation methods. For this purpose, a diagonal compression-strut and tension-tic model is presented to model the strengthened infill wall that is integrated to the boundary frame members. The comparisons of test results with estimated load-deformation curves show that model is capable of estimating stiffness, strength and deformation capacity of FRP strengthened reinforced concrete frames with sufficient accuracy. The outcome of this research is believed to enable the structural engineers to perform retrofit design of deficient infilled reinforced concrete frames with FRPs.

Investigation of thermal characteristics of a series polyoxazolines by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Atılkan, Nurcan; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2011)
In the latest years, many studies especially on characterization and synthesis of polyoxazolines have been made. During these studies, new polyoxazolines such as poly(2-isopropyl-2-oxazoline) (PIPOX), poly(2-(3-butenyl)-2-oxazoline) (PBOX) and modified PBOX were synthesized. However, there has been no investigation on their thermal characteristics such as thermal stability and thermal degradation products. In this study, thermal degradation characteristics, thermal degradation products and thermal stability...
Analysis of stress distribution in a maxillary central incisor subjected to various post and core applications
Yaman, SD; Alacam, T; Yaman, Yavuz (1998-02-01)
In this study, stress distribution in a maxillary central incisor that was subjected to endodontic treatment and various post and core applications was determined by using a three-dimensional finite-element method. Cast gold post and gold core and different combinations of prefabricated stainless-steel post, or a prefabricated titanium post with amalgam or composite cores were considered. In all cases, the tooth was assumed to have a porcelain crown. The primary purpose of the study was to evaluate the stre...
Thermal and structural characterization of polypyrrole by direct-insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Uyar, T.; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2001-03-15)
There have been extensive studies on structural characterization of conducting polypyrrole, PPY using various techniques. The two proposed structures are the aromatic form corresponding to the undoped state and the quinoid form corresponding to the doped state. However, actual structure appears to be more complicated and the relationship between the dopant used and the structure was not totally clarified. In this study direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry technique was applied to monitor therm...
Analysis of immunoreactivity of NOS isoforms (nNOS, eNOS, iNOS) in hippocampus of young rats classified as good and poor learners
Keçecioğlu, Ekin; Jakubowska Doğru, Ewa; Department of Biology (2012)
Despite very extensive studies on molecular mechanisms of learning and memory formation it is little known about individual variation in the learning skills within a random animal population and about the differences in the brain biochemistry behind this variation. In the present study, we have focused on the expression and distribution of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), one of the molecules implemented in activity-dependent neuroplasticity, in the rat hippocampus, the structure critical for episodic memory in...
Enhancing electrochemical and electrochromic performances of carbazole comprising monomer via copolymerization with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT)
Kalay, Isil; Yigit, Deniz; GÜLLÜ, Mustafa; DEPCİ, TOLGA; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Hacioglu, Serife O. (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
In this study, two novel electrochromic copolymers (CoP1.3 and CoP1.5) were synthesized via electrochemical methods and characterized. The comonomers used in the synthesis were 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and a carbazole comprising monomer; 9-(2-(4-(Phenyldiazenyl) phenoxy) ethyl)-3,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)-9H-carbazole (M1). Carbazole containing monomer (M1) and EDOT were combined with two different comonomer feed ratios, 1: 3 and 1: 5 respectively in order to investigate the effect of increasing EDOT amo...
