Single nucletide polymorphism (SNP) data integrated electronic health record (EHR) for personalized medicine
Beyan, Timur; Aydın Son, Yeşim; Department of Health Informatics (2014)
The digital age is revolutionizing the old and historical population-based healthcare paradigm towards personalized medicine. Traditional diagnostic approaches fail to define treatment response or prognosis. Focusing on manifest symptoms often hides risk factors and, so prevention opportunities of diseases disappear. Today, it's known that most of the complex diseases are result of interaction of genomic, environmental and behavioral factors and personalized medicine is defined as the use of these data to d...
Single Mutation in Shine-Dalgarno-Like Sequence Present in the Amino Terminal of Lactate Dehydrogenase of Plasmodium Effects the Production of an Eukaryotic Protein Expressed in a Prokaryotic System

One of the most important step in structure-based drug design studies is obtaining the protein in active form after cloning the target gene. In one of our previous study, it was determined that an internal Shine-Dalgarno-like sequence present just before the third methionine at N-terminus of wild type lactate dehydrogenase enzyme of Plasmodium falciparum prevent the translation of full length protein. Inspection of the same region in P. vivax LDH, which was overproduced as an active enzyme, indicated that t...
Double promoter expression systems for recombinant protein production by industrial microorganisms
Ozturk, Sibel; Ergun, Burcu Gunduz; Çalık, Pınar (2017-10-01)
Using double promoter expression systems is a promising approach to increase heterologous protein production. In this review, current double promoter expression systems for the production of recombinant proteins (r-proteins) by industrially important bacteria, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli; and yeasts, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pichia pastoris, are discussed by assessing their potentials and drawbacks. Double promoter expression systems need to be designed to maintain a higher specific product f...
Single vector leptoquark production in e(+)e(-) and gamma e colliders
Alıyev, Tahmasıb; Pak, NK (1996-10-01)
We consider the single vector leptoquark (LQ) production at e(+)e(-) and gamma e colliders for two values of the center-of-mass energy root s = 500 GeV and root s = 1090 GeV, in a model-independent framework. We find that the cross sections for the single gauge and nongauge vector LQ productions are almost equal. The discovery limit for a single vector LQ production is obtained for both cases. It is shown that in e(+)e(-) collisions the single vector LQ production is more favorable than the vector LQ pair p...
Multilocus sequence typing supports the hypothesis that cow- and human-associated Salmonella isolates represent distinct and overlapping populations

A collection of 179 human and 156 bovine clinical Salmonella isolates obtained from across New York state over the course of I year was characterized using serotyping and a multilocus sequence typing (MLST) scheme based on the sequencing of three genes (fimA, manB, and mdh). The 335 isolates were differentiated into 52 serotypes and 72 sequence types (STs). Analyses of bovine isolates collected on different farms over time indicated that specific subtypes can persist over time on a given farm; in particular...
